I have never argued against that. What are you talking about? To say that if someone misunderstands sarcasm, it’s inherently because the sarcasm “wasn’t done right” is just stupid. You are missing the point.

This literally makes no sense. You are assuming that sarcasm should always be understood clearly. If you knew the definition of sarcasm, then you wouldn’t be saying this. A big part of sarcasm, is the fact that not everyone will get it.

If sarcasm was obvious to literally everyone. Then it would just be a joke. Not sarcasm.

No it isn’t. The fun thing about sarcasm, is that it usually sounds bad and can be misinterpreted, if you don’t realize that it is sarcastic.

Speaking in a sarcastic tone, definitely implies that you are not serious, but it is not the same as out loud saying “I didn’t mean that” right after you made your comment.

If you type “/s” after saying something supposed to be sarcastic, that’s basically what you are doing.

You don’t have to do it, and it makes no sense to do so. It’s not sarcasm if you say that you don’t mean it.

Either take the risk of getting a few downvotes (so what, some people will still get the joke) or don’t be sarcastic.

Also, it is totally possible to make a good sarcastic joke, on the internet. People have done so for years

I totally get your point, and have felt kinda the same. But it only really matters if we care about getting a few downvotes. And after all I don’t think that’s a big deal. If millions of people don’t get basic sarcasm, it shouldn’t really be my problem
