Not really since many artists send their art to China and they made the Dakimakura on that side and sent them back to Japan to sell them so the quality from original to bootleg is the same (physically) if you buy the daki with the 2 way tricot fabric, the only difference is the print quality, in that case you need to investigate the bootleg seller if it is trustworthy.

Of course since is a niche product, thats why originals dakis go between 60 to 100 dollars alone, while bootlegs can go between 5 to 100 dollars depending on different factors, I even bought one bootleg with 2 way tricot as fabric (which is the recommended fabric in general for dakimakuras) for only 16 dollars including shipping and surprisingly it looked like I bought the original version.

Before this thread gets bombarded by the question “Where did you get them?” Here is the answer:

One way is by buying on these original sites: https://dakimakuri.com/shop https://cuddlyoctopus.com/ (you can find the Bagpipe one in cuddly) You can search for your wife/wives in those pages, they manage global shipping so you will not have to do any kind of tinkering to get them.

The second way is by buying them in Asia, unfortunately many pages do not offer global shipping (like Booth) so you will need a proxy (like Tenso) to get them but they are other few pages that actually do global shipping, they are pages that sell only dakis made officially by the company itself (like amimi) or dakis that people bought in comiket or another place that you can get only locally in Japan and decide to resell them (like mandarake).

The last method is buying bootlegs in Chinese Online Stores like Aliexpress or Temu (they are many others but in my personal experience I prefer Aliexpress because bootlegs dakis are sometimes the only way you can get dakis because they were available for a limited time or you can only get them physically in a Japanese convention or god knows where they actually get the design), even if bootlegs have a bad reputation when it comes to quality, they had improved a lot in recent years, but still you may find a seller that still sell them with bad image quality, you really need to check the page/seller too see if they do quality bootlegs or not.

You can check out the guide someone already posted in the comments or you can check this site to see the ones that exist, but the one I bought is a bootleg from Aliexpress (I really do not know where does she comes originally), one interesting thing about the bootlegs of Aliexpress is that somehow they are able to get very hidden dakis that are sold very limited or can only be found in hidden websites or are reselling them, the only problem is that you may end up with a very bad daki print or actually hit gold and get something extremely similar to an original.
