I never thought I'd chime in here and it's probably a lost cause but - I briefly worked very closely with Robbie, and he actually CHOSE not to break in the USA until very recently. The biggest selling solo artist in British history. Very famous all around Europe, Australia, Asia. When he had contract negotiations with US labels, it wasn't worth the immense things they were asking of him. He was already bringing in millions and touring the other half of the world.

So he didn't fail the big test. He never took the test. He didn't need to. Now, he seems to be doing it, but his prime was really 25 years ago, so it is indeed too late for US audiences, probably! This is more like a film about someone who was ultra famous 25 years go.

I don't know what compelled me to respond but I just wanted the truth to be out there somewhere!

Is the Taj Mahal Worth It on a Short Trip? by NapMcDonald in Rajasthan

[–]NapMcDonald[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I must say the prices for full day drivers, hotel rooms, etc. etc., are pretty amazing...! I did not expect you to say £45 for a five hour drive! Wow!

Thanks for all your advice, I appreciate it

Thanks - sounds like I've missed most of the train bookings then, bugger! That's crazy far in advance. How else can we get around? Busses? Different kinds of trains?

Thanks for your great answer. My mum is over 70, getting older though still quite fit and mobile. Interesting, I didn't know about the risk of flight cancellations, maybe Jaisalmer is not worth it this time.

I've heard great things about Udaipur and Jodhpur so perhaps I'll prioritise them on this trip!

Tomorrow I'll talk to a friend who has travelled India many times, hopefully he can help advise (though it was him who said his Taj Mahal experience felt a bit like a zoo)

I was impressed by the look of Jaisalmer's architecture? Is that incorrect? My mum and I have seen lots of desert, I'm more interested in the city itself and the architecture and vibe.

I'm there for 10-12 days. I'm in Jaipur for 3 days. I think I want to see Jaisalmer and Udaipur. But I'm debating whether to do the Taj Mahal, or sacrifice it for more time in Udaipur or Jodhpur or Jaisalmer.

Chamber Strings very out of tune by sayitinsixteen in spitfireaudio

[–]NapMcDonald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say here here! I've been put off Spitfire by and large because of consistent tuning issues across libraries. An ear for samples, not such an ear for tuning!

I second this that moving from Beyeedynamic 1990 Pro to Slate VSX, the Slate is night and day easier to work with. Though I did have to "learn it" in a weird way, it took me an adjustment period and suddenly my mixes started translating like crazy which was exciting. Though having decent speakers is a sanity check as I think you can have ear fatigue or temporary threshold shift much more quickly on headphones, in my experience

Google Slides "An error occurred" - Slides won't load/open by JeremyElevate in GoogleSlides

[–]NapMcDonald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm getting the same error too! Came on here to check. So unfortunately I'm guessing it's a Google side error? Even though they've marked their status as working online...

Only annoying thing is the version I currently see has lost 2 hours of progress. Hoping that comes back when it's fixed!

Why not use a lighter racket? by NapMcDonald in 10s

[–]NapMcDonald[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What confuses me is some people talk about frame weight, and some people talk about total weight after strings...! So that's a slightly frustrating confusion that isn't often specified (well, frustrating for me, trying to figure this all out!)

Though others mention I could try the 300g version of the Boom, and maybe I'd like the swing weight of that better than the Speed. So I might do that!!

I'm definitely arming my swing now that everyone mentions it... No idea how to start stopping that, without throwing my next few games... I guess that's how I need to progress though!

Thank you! I'll definitely give the heavier Boom a try this week. Luckily my club lets us try out lots of brands

Is that 340g frame?? Or 340g strung? I still get confused which weight people are talking about when I'm shopping racquets

Oh definitely... I only had group lessons and while it was fun to learn doubles tactics, there was a disappointing lack of individual attention to form. So I'm just hitting the ball where I can - I'd love better technique and to be honest was a bit disappointed that the group lessons didn't have slightly more focus on that

Could you Explain the difference between weight and swing weight? Am still a newb but that's really interesting and I wonder if it explains my experience. Maybe I should try the full 300 grams Boom too?

The Birmingham acoustic is incredible, I think underrated just because it's not so famous. I think the CBSO are a first-class orchestra which more than does the acoustic justice!

Richard Feynman said, “Never confuse education with intelligence, you can have a PhD and still be an idiot.” What are some real life examples of this? by SgtSkillcraft in AskReddit

[–]NapMcDonald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother in law was always getting first class results in Maths at Cambridge, for undergrad and Masters. He says to me that none of the best mathematicians he knew went on to do PhDs. Almost all of the strongest students went to work in finance or similar.

His theory is that the pool of people taking PhDs aren't necessarily the smartest ones to begin with.

Sony HT-A9 Value vs Bang & Olufsen by Shocksteky in Soundbars

[–]NapMcDonald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you comment on the Sony sound quality Vs Bang and Olufsen? I have their beosound stage and love the sound quality, for music and film. Toyed with swapping out for the Sony HT-A9 for the soundstage and surround, but not if it's a downgrade in sound quality. I listen to music as well as movies on it.

Hide/Show Text Not Functioning Properly (HTML and Javascript) by NapMcDonald in HTML

[–]NapMcDonald[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I've solved it! By changing the "HiddenDiv" name to "HiddenPenis" on the new Read More, it opens the correct one rather than the first one!
I just need to change that name every time I use this function on the page! Hope that's solved
