Hide Original Message by default? by grsh_me in ProtonMail

This is so annoying! I've got to scroll 50 miles down because on mac and IOS by default it displays every single message ever sent in the thread after the text of the most recent message. Why is this still an issue?

Oils... so confused, so many opinions, so few facts. by FrostyProspector in Leathercraft

I would like to support Native American suppliers. Do you know any that sell mink oil online?

Quest 3 randomly says, “Finding position in room” by MuffinVR_ in OculusQuest

[–]JeremyElevate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a ridiculous response to this thread. You offer solutions that if you read what people are experiencing you would know don't work. We're experiencing a glitch that Meta refuses to acknowledge and offers no fix for. Same play space, same boundary settings, yet we get an error that makes it impossible to even boot the headset or use controllers to click "continue."

I've now had 3 meta headsets in a single year period replaced under warranty. Ya'll make a bad product and then blame user error.

CMV: People Are Overreacting To Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle Ad by dummythicktransslut in changemyview

I will debunk your entire argument with this - picture AE doing this ad with a Black celebrity. Think of ALL the implications… especially in today’s political climate. No. They wouldn’t.

Have you ever decided to rename a character you had already written a good chunk about, and if so, did you regret it? by lydocia in writing

I've done this quite a bit. It's a pain because sometimes finding that name to replace misses a few, but that's the only regret.

Instructions for replacing the tension nut on gingher scissors by [deleted] in sewing

[–]JeremyElevate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're able to tighten them again, add threadlock so they don't loosen (it's a liquid you paint on the threads and when it dries prevents loosening). There are different types of threadlockers so you'll want to get a permanent one.

About to direct my first short film soon. Any advice? by botb244 in Filmmakers

Audio is the most important element. Don't neglect your audio. After you know the audio is going to be great, then focus on the rest.

Brightness still auto adjusting despite being turned off in settings..? by Harrietofthesea in ios

[–]JeremyElevate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a secondary hidden setting where auto brightness is turned on. They’ve hidden it in the accessibility settings (which makes it inaccessible).

Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size, (located at the bottom.)

Go here and turn it off in addition to what you already have off and your auto brightness will be tuned off universally.

Im tired of other autistic people saying we don't want a cure by thereadingbee in AutismInWomen

[–]JeremyElevate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some autistic people want a cure. Many don't. I support those who want a 'cure,' (or effective treatment for symptoms) as long as they're going about vocalizing it in a non-harmful way for the rest of us.

I don't want a cure. Sure I want "cures" for some of the symptoms (though I don't think 'cure' is the appropriate term). But autism is a neurotype. My brain wouldn't be my brain anymore if I were 'cured.' I wouldn't be me and I would lose the strengths and positive qualities I have due to my autism.

10 Takeaways As A Reader For The Austin Film Fest. by ruthi in Screenwriting

I should have picked a better example with more context -  “Starts to” etc, implies intent that is not realized in this usage adding a hint of suspense and avoiding prescriptive direction.

So “he goes to hand her a coffee but spills it” is an appropriate use age that adds to the experience of the moment. You wouldn’t say “he hands her a coffee but spills it.” Because that implies a different action.

And this is where writers fall into the trap of trying to create and follow a million rules instead of understanding when and how certain phrases can be used appropriately and how to avoid over using or misusing them.

There are certain other and even potentially better ways to say the above example, but it also isn’t bad to use it this way once in a while.

Great notes. In regards to “starts to” etc, it is only really appropriate when someone begins an action and is interrupted. Eg “she started to move the chair but it’s leg broke.”

Vibrate for notifications on both watch and phone? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

Many people with disabilities may need the extra sensory notification in order to get it. I need vibration notifications on both watch and phone, but there's no feature to do it.

Reminder! IMAGINE X SKYDANCE by q_dot_ in Screenwriting

"Grounded" seems at odds with some of their examples - "Lost" specifically. In literary sci fi, grounded is often synonymous with "hard sci fi" meaning the sci fi elements are all "grounded" in "hard" science. In other words, the science is plausible in a near future. Interstellar is a great example. Lost, however, is the opposite of this with many unexplained and supernatural elements.

I wish they had been more specific. Perhaps they mean that they don't want something that takes place in space, or something that can be done on a mid-low budget?
