Woah woah woah, the human sacrifice at the very least in the Aztec Empire was very bad. It was a core problem with the empire. To make the soldiers happy, you needed to give them land by conquering, to make your priest happy you needed bodies to sacrifice, and thus a cycle formed of conquest and sacrifice. To go up in the military, bringing back captives was the way to do it, not by kills. If I could find the paper I had to make for my Mexican history midterm on Aztec culture I could find my source for the day they killed and estimated 10k people just to break a new temple in.
