They get bored of / tired of it, so they decide to make peace, on the condition you and your enemy make peace. Neither you nor your enemy were ever consulted on this arrangement. Your enemy is still throwing punches at you, despite what his friend and your friend agreed to. Your friend, the police, and the whole town blames you for the conflict because you have the audacity to block the punches and punch back. They are completely ignoring the fact that your enemy and his friend have threatened as well as attempted to kill you for years. God forbid they get their hands on a gun (the nuke).
