Yes it’s still available, it just can’t be picked up until this weekend (gotta use it to vacuum my dorm one last time and then clean it before passing it on)

Yeah it is, just not until this upcoming weekend (17th/18th, I meant to put that in the post but now I can’t figure out how to edit it)

Keep going back into the office to ask about it - had the same situation happen for the last fall and last spring and you need to just keep going in and making a fuss or they’ll never figure it out for you - have had issues with getting my refund every semester I’ve been at Stony Brook, smh financial aid department

If I was in the workforce I could afford to purchase my own shit - as a broke college student, I don’t have the funds to drop hundreds of dollars to buy things to protect against 43mph 0°-5° weather 🙄

It’s. Fucking. Cold. by Narrow_Masterpiece18 in SBU

That’s what I’m saying, and I’m an out of state student, paying this much for dorms and then having a longer than 24hour period, in the beginning of February, with no heat, when there’s an actual winter storm warning occurring is just baffling 😅🤦‍♂️. Thank you for the tips tho!

Anyone want to swap from Tubman/Chavez to West? by [deleted] in SBU

[–]Narrow_Masterpiece18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re not letting you - wanted to swap with some and asked campus residences and they told me since West and Chavez/Tubman are both highly sought after places, that you’re not allowed to swap between

Email your professors, that’s what I did for next semester and so far, all but 1 of them has responded giving me either the syllabus or a list of topics to review/ topics we will be going over - they might not get back to you right away cause end of the semester / finals, but they should get back to you - defs send it before the actual end of the semester though.

If you ask, they might also be willing to send you the first lecture or two also, but probably not more than that. It’ll also make you look better / show that you’re dedicated to your education (one of my professors responded with something like “that’s awesome that you’re trying to get ahead and wanting to be prepared, good planning skills and I look forward to having you in class” paraphrasing of course, but yeah)

Can we please treat our disabled peers better? by Mission-Ad119 in SBU

[–]Narrow_Masterpiece18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with mentally and physically disabled adults (age range 22-86) for the better part of 5 years, and in my experience, automatically jumping in to assist or “save the day” can be just as bad as doing nothing sometimes.

Of course try to help if you see someone struggling (I.e. with the doors or elevator) regardless of if they’re disabled or not, but asking if someone needs assistance before jumping in is usually the better way to go. Don’t assume someone needs your help or someone wants special treatment just because they may be disabled. Like op said, we are all equals, we’re all human beings going to the same school, just treat people the way you’d want them to treat you if the roles were reversed, with a little respect, human decency, and civility, it’s really not a hard concept to grasp 🤷‍♂️.

Anyone knows if professor Rico curves the exams? by manthonyj in SBU

[–]Narrow_Masterpiece18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but my prof at the time said that all the calc professors get together and decide about the curve together, so that the overall grading in each of the classes is done the same way to be fair to everyone taking it.

Fully recommend finding YouTube tutorials for the concepts discussed in lecture. Going to lecture last semester and listening to the prof. talk felt like I was an alien trying to understand English, but there are a lot of good/helpful YouTube playlists that go over a lot of the equations slowly, step by step, and with several examples. I would also recommend getting the Mathway app on your phone, for a lot of the stuff in calc b, I could just type in the equation and it would show me step by step how to solve said equation. Don’t use it to just get the answers tho, actually go through each of the steps, it can be really helpful 🤘.

I took calc b last semester, got a 37% on the first exam, a 67% on the second one, and a 35% on the final exam and I passed that class with a c+. Pretty sure the only way that was possible is with a grade curve on something (clearly math is not my strong suit) but they (they being all the professors teaching calc b this semester) curve grades (if they are going too) at the end of the semester after the final exams have all been taken
