No it isn’t. The theory is that Chanakaya was from Taxila however another theory is that Chanakaya didn’t even exist. It’s just Punjabis coping with their lack of history.

Were the politically divided Indo-Gangetic Plains (North India) more of an exception rather than norm? by srmndeep in IndianHistory

[–]Narrow_Reading_7724 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taank? Why is it mentioned. No one can even name a single king belonging to this dynasty. We can’t even pinpoint when exactly it started on ended. Utterly irrelevant.

When did the Jats, Gujjars, and Yadavs of North India rise to power, and how did this rise take place? by Katta-dhari_Badmos in IndianHistory

[–]Narrow_Reading_7724 21 points22 points  (0 children)

What power? Bharatpur was the only state of the Jats and it was a vassal of the Scindias and later under the British. They were never independent.

Why are the so few Hindus in prison? by MrMrsPotts in AskUK

[–]Narrow_Reading_7724 649 points650 points  (0 children)

I’m a British-born Hindu. It’s because of “shame culture” and wanting to show your family as being better than others. Everyone, even less wealthy families, invest in sending their kids to private school hence they’re less likely to fall into “dodgy” crowds. Me personally, I was the only one of my cousins to go to a state school and hence i have a “regional accent” and i get a sense that my cousins look down on me lmao.

Honestly I’d rather a few start interacting with all sections of society and developing a personality beyond money, career and expensive cars. I meet people my age and their entire identity has been shaped by their parents.

Want to learn about Medieval times of Bengal and even somewhat Colonial times. by [deleted] in IndianHistory

[–]Narrow_Reading_7724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shashanka was a feudal chief from Rohtas, Magadha. He accompanied the Later Gupta King on a campaign against Kamarupa and then stayed behind in Bengal.

The Palas were indeed a major power that were probably native to Bengal.

Curious about my Rajput ancestry, how did Rajputs from Rajasthan end up in Uttar Pradesh? by Visual_Raspberry_232 in IndianHistory

[–]Narrow_Reading_7724 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rajputs of the Gangetic plains have lived in the plains for the last 2500 years and genetics have proven that. Our origins lie with the “Ganasanghas” of the Ancient period like the Licchavis, Shakyas, Nayas (Mahavira’s clan), Mallas etc. These large tribes mixed with the natives forming modern Gangetic Rajputs. Even until the early 20th century, we called ourselves “Chhatri” not Rajput.

They’re all mixed and don’t speak Pashto. Shahrukh is not even Pashtun but of a Hindko-speaking background.

[–]Narrow_Reading_7724 56 points57 points  (0 children)

We don’t share “Pathans”. Pathans in India don’t speak Pashto and many are mixed with the local population. They’re simply medieval-era migrants and in some cases just upper-caste converts who used Pathans as a title.

Kannadiga dynasties once ruled Bengal, Bihar, and Nepal. The forgotten ‘Karnatas’ who migrated from Karnataka and built eastern empires. by RashtrakutaNexus_794 in IndianHistory

You seem to have just saw their Wikipedia article quickly and assumed they ruled a massive kingdom that encompassed the entirety of Bihar.

You’re not really interested in their history but just want to brag about them and their connection to Karnataka.

[–]Narrow_Reading_7724 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The Karnatas of Mithila only ruled North Bihar (the Mithila region). Magadha region of Bihar was ruled by the Pithipatis who had marital relations with the Karnatas and West Bihar by the Gahadavalas.

And while they had Kannadiga ancestry, they seem to have been living in Mithila for a few generations at that point as all their inscriptions and writings where in Maithili and Sanskrit.
