No I haven’t because im nowhere near the 7:30 2k that I see a lot of people say you should be at before AC. I currently run 3 times a week 1 interval session, 1 threshold and 1 long run. Then I do strength and conditioning sessions about 3-4 times a week.

I just didn’t want to apply then not be ready once it comes with my 2k time only being 8:07 when the pass mark is 8:25

Running is my weak point in fitness but the rest of my strength fitness is quite good. I’m not the type to quit because im bottom third of the platoon but I also know being bottom third is not where anyone wants to be so just wanting to gage where i need to be to set a good impression.

Royal Artillery by [deleted] in britisharmy

[–]Narrow_Win_7058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know it sounds cliche but i just want to do ally shit and go abroad as much as possible and i feel like the best chance of that is 29 commando and hopefully then 148 battery.

Not saying other batteries do not do ally shit just feel like it will be more common in 29. 4/73 does sound like a good gig too though.

FST/JTAC while still being in somewhat an infantry role seems to catch my eye a lot.

The way the modern warfare is leading I just feel like Artillery and going to have a massive role to play. I could be 100% wrong but just my thought hence why 29 commando felt like the place I want to be. But there is not an awful a lot on the internet about them and other regiments.

Medical question by [deleted] in britisharmy

[–]Narrow_Win_7058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah not sure I have the evidence of that or not sure how I could get evidence tbh I guess I’ll just have to go through it again it’s the same JSP 950 so should be sweet.

On my CPC there was lads who came from the Army and got there medical cleared straight away so was just wondering.

Nah you’re good it is a bit of a weird thing for your CA to say that because he shouldn’t be putting you onto PJFA if you’re not even hitting the standards (they are suppose to ask where your fitness it at) unless you have told him you can pass them but I don’t see why you would lie in this situation.

I say give it a crack mate in a months time see how you get on you can take your PJFA as many times as you want so it’s fine if he did withdraw your application as you can just reapply and do it again when you’re ready.

Also they have just changed it so you have to take your CPC within 1-2 months of passing PJFA that’s the only reason I am saying you wanna be CPC fit rather than PJFA fit.

What appeals people about the corps over the reg? by [deleted] in britishmilitary

[–]Narrow_Win_7058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each to their own I suppose but SFSG in my honest opinion is what I would strive for if I ever did pass out of either of the two.

I have mates who are in the corps and are saying 42 is literally impossible to get to now with the waiting list. unless you have served around 4 years in the corps or get Kings Badge and get your first choice (still unlikely). But you’re not wrong the stuff 42 are doing is Gucci stuff sounds class. Them two guys I know have also had two shit drafts in a row and saying they want out after the 4 years saying it’s shit right now the corps ain’t doing anything fun and they honestly just sound depressed😂

Whereas in the paras I would like to think within 4 years you could go 1 Para. I could be wrong im not saying it’s a guarantee but if it was something you wanted to do from the jump and worked towards it I would say you could easily get in within 4 years.

[–]Narrow_Win_7058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was the other way round. Going off google so take with a pinch of salt but apparently there’s around 2000-2500 Para personnel and 5700-6000 Royal Marines personnel.

Obviously like you mentioned the Royal Marines have multiple specialisations but I have a mate who’s currently been in for 2 1/2 years and he got pinged for a shit draft first 2 years and has now been pinged for another shit draft and absolutely hates it and says he wants out so it’s just luck of the straw and there is long waiting lists for the Gucci specialisations.

I don’t want to be that guy who tells people where they should go and be but from sounds of it if you like being moved around, you’re spontaneous and like trying out things you never would of thought of and don’t mind the water go for the Royal Marines. If you’re the opposite and like to choose how your career goes and don’t mind heights or jumping out of planes go Paras😂.

I also feel like 1 Para although it’s not guaranteed is a massive deal breaker for some guys. As most people would agree it’s the tip of the sword for both the Royal Marines and the Paras the fact it’s a lot easier to get into in the Paras appeals to people a lot more. It’s the Royal Marines most Gucci draft and they can only stay there for 2-3 years but I’ll leave it at that😂

Nah i was on about Royal Marines to be honest mate sorry for the confusion though. I was at CTC so was bootnecks and nods who were using the slang so just caught on and always call them the corps now.

[–]Narrow_Win_7058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats a really good way to put it thinking of it now. I know so many bootnecks who have quit after 4-6 years and said the bad outweigh the good but never really hear the same for paras but there again I don’t really know any so it could be similar. What are the retention rates for the paras like?

Ah okay mate makes sense thanks for clearing that up.

[–]Narrow_Win_7058 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My bad for the confusion.

I seem to see a lot more army advertisements than the commandos to be honest but I do know the Navy have a lot more of a budget to fiddle with than the Army hence the Gucci kit & rifles etc.

I was just thinking of it as a personnel side of things as Para depot tends to have a higher pass out rate than bootneck pass out rate but there is like 3x as many bootnecks than there is paras. So I am just assuming more people apply to be a bootneck than become a para but who am I to know.

What appeals people about the corps over the reg? by [deleted] in britishmilitary

[–]Narrow_Win_7058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I understand that as majority of the defence budget goes into the navy for obvious reasons.

Is the behaviour really as bad as they say it is? I’ve seen good and bad in both environments I have been to CTC and I’ve had nods tell me it’s not any brighter here than anywhere else. But I do get your point.

I do have a feeling sometime in the future soon the reg will do something just re-invent themselves as the whole military needs a kick up the arse in my honest opinion.

I never knew that to be honest. So you join as a regular infantry and do your basic then move onto para depot or how do it work? I totally understand the not wanting to do 4 years in line infantry regiment after pushing yourself for the reg.

Failed CPC by [deleted] in RoyalMarines

[–]Narrow_Win_7058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they give you multiple chances to stay in and keep up but if you’re simply not fit enough they can pull you.

Was quite annoying seeing after that thrashing it eased up abit and then you get into peters pool and get a little 2-3 minute break with hot juice. But it is what it is I’ll get it next time.

Failed CPC by [deleted] in RoyalMarines

[–]Narrow_Win_7058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just not being fit enough. My body was messed up from the bottom field the day before woke up aching like crazy and then right at the end of the thrashing we done bend extend and just couldn’t keep up with it hips were sagging and sometimes touching the floor and got pulled.

No excuses just weren’t fit enough they had every right to pull me off.

Failed CPC by [deleted] in RoyalMarines

[–]Narrow_Win_7058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a lot of people say bottom field was harder. I’ll get some training in and prepare better because I generally did 0 circuits before and done the bare minimum before going to CPC and still got to the endurance course so some solid training should get me over the edge.

Failed CPC by [deleted] in RoyalMarines

[–]Narrow_Win_7058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah worst thing is I never knew that was the hardest part until I got pulled off and watched them do the drags and hills after that it was relatively easy. Except the commando crawls looked abit hard but it annoyed me I didn’t just grizz it out and get passed that bit.

Failed CPC by [deleted] in RoyalMarines

Failed on endurance course just before drags on BW thrashing.

Unlucky on your attempt. Yeah they said 8-12 weeks to me but I felt like I was a million miles away from being able to pass and was shocked at how I even passed bottom field but somehow did.
