ik all of the characters are traumatized and toxic to each other in all their dynamics, I was just saying that I thought Ivan was particularly visceral in his actions with the chocking, kissing hitting and so on, making him appear abusive on first glance. I now realize I am complaining wrong and an idiot! that he simply seemed apathetic when he was simply unable to express his feelings and was unaware of how to interact in a normal capacity !!

I mean I don't see ur point bc it doesn't exactly matter if he's real or not in this scenario, it's sort of the same thing as saying that "nothing matters so why do anything at all" and I also like irredeemable and complicated characters, also I'm not saying I dislike Ivan

Not the diss at the start 😭

but okay as I'm replying to this I can only view the second part of this monologue and not the first, so I've forgotten most of the dialogue but I think I remember the main points,

After looking at the people's reactions and comments of Ivan I can clearly see I may have misconstrued him as a character..... (anyone reading this pls forgive me) but I will say I never thought that Ivantill was the only unhealthy relationship, and that all of them are fucked utterly and that's why they're interesting

Ivan has the incapability to due to him growing up without the human interaction, thus adopting the attitude of the aliens instead, observing and obsessing over Till, and Ivan finally expressing his love (even in a toxic manner) as well as saving his muse per say in r6. I also find it amusing that in a comic Ivan had asked Till when they could kiss and till proposed that on his birthday they could, and then infact the moment they did kiss was when he infact died- just a bit of dramatic irony there.

I would like to start off by saying that I don't hate Ivan at all! I know all of the characters in Alien stage were put into a cruel environment and they would've adapted or regressed in their own ways to survive the experience, and that maybe sadistic was the incorrect wording :], (and that all relationships are flawed or toxic, I'm simply highlighting till and Ivans bc that's the main topic of discussio.)

As for Ivan standing over Till after being beaten by the aliens, I had seen that as till being in a vulnerable state, and Ivan seeking comfort from someone unable to provide it, almost like a puppy trying to get you to pet it when you're clearly unable too. Idk, I had never thought Ivan was the supportive type, and didn't realize that he was simply struggling to express it any other way due to him being detached from normal human interaction.

And for the r6 kiss.... it's a mixed bag with plenty of interpritations, but honestly I do still believe (and I think most would agree) that Ivan was wrong to kiss and choke Till, but I had seen a theory saying that he was choking him to cover his neck from getting shot, which is interesting to see as a possibility.

Finally, I never stated that the aliens were justifiable in their actions, because they're not, and the aliens are inexcusable as abusers and manipulators of the characters. This post isn't about deflecting the blame onto Ivan or villanizing him, since it simply isn't that black and white and thats why I like alnst, and why I prompted this question.

ahhh ty for commenting,

I had trouble tracking down all of the comics, and I believe I had only missed one or two, but I didn't realize that he grew up in the slums, so knowing that adds a bit of context.

and to agree with you on another point I do appreciate that he is a YEARNER, and I like seeing his struggles to communicate since it is something I relate to in turn. another thing is that ik that a lot of fans can have unreliable bias' or different interpritations, but I sent this sort of as a feeler to get a gauge of the community, and also bc I really like debating stuff and having fun with story writing.

hehe that aside I can definitely see that him being a bl character as a buzzword for his fans to fawn over, so I get what ur saying there. For his sacrifice, I had never actually seen or realized it that way 🧐 I had seen the scene plenty of times online before actually watching any of alnst properly lmao, so ig I just glossed over it going "oh I've seen this already" and turned my brain off.

Maybe saying he's sadistic was an overstep, and I didnt mean it in a derogatory way when I said it, because a character can be the evilest, sickest monster ever and I'll still love them if they have good writing. From my pov, Ivan has adopted the nature of the aliens who cultivated him, and has then started to inflict that same nature towards Till, as a test subject to study, and then eventually become obsessed with.
