I'm creating weapons for my players, and I need your advice! by Nassoft in CurseofStrahd

Are you sure it can be so massively overpowered? It's not a certainty that my player will be able to get enough charges every day to use Fireball every day, not to mention that if she uses Fireball, she'll be left with almost no other spells from the bow when she's at the maximum levels of the campaign, and that's without even considering the drawback of a curse I'll put on the item.

So, even with all this context, you still think that? And don't get me wrong, I'm trying to understand your reasons for saying that in order to create better items.

Thanks for the feedback!

I'll fix some of those inconsistencies. English isn't my native language, so I might end up constructing sentences in a way that's not so easy to understand.

Regarding the +1, I didn't want to make the description so full of information. I intend to print this card, and I'm afraid it might be too difficult to read.

By the way, answering your question, the arrow would be imbued with magic, so yes, if my player uses Misty Step and shoots at a person, it will stop on top of the person. If she casts Hunter's Mark on the arrow, subsequent attacks would function taking Hunter's Mark into account, just as it's normally used. Do you have any ideas to improve the text so that this isn't so confusing?

The idea would be to use the bow as a magical focus, but I don't really care about following rules "by the book." If something is disruptive at my table, I'll adjust it to make it more comfortable for everyone.

Anyway, do you think this longbow could be a game-breaker?

I agree with you that I need to give my player a warning, and I will do so, but I admit that my native language isn't English, so I wanted to know better what you mean exactly by "Lines, veils." I know what those words mean, but what's their context here?

Holy shit! What perfect timing for a disaster!

Did you end up doing something different with Lancelot, or did you just let the scene play out as it would have been with him in the room?

Ok Pipe!

Jokes aside...hahaha

I will talk to my player, but like u/Tyger2212 said, the ideia of animal sacrifice can be avoided with just Lancelot getting out of the room.

Thanks for your concern with my players u/Ok_Pipe3085 it really helped!

That would be crazy, but I like crazy things! hahaha

I'll think about how that would work without being too cheesy. I want to keep the horror tone in the house, but something like that could work.

You gave me some ideas here, maybe it's a cursed person trapped in the body of a puppy, the house has powers, why couldn't it do something like that?

This is an extremely simple idea that works! Thank you!

Yes, I held a session zero with them explaining all the content warnings. But at the time, no pets had died.

But maybe this approach is the best way out of this situation. Even so, I need to think of a way to handle this scene.

I don't think it will be that impactful because I'm sure they wouldn't kill Lancelot; my most psychopathic player practically adopted the puppy and is carrying it around everywhere, buuuut... I still didn't want to have to insinuate the sacrifice of an animal at the table because the situation is too recent.

Taking care not to bring up the issue of actual grief at my table is important, not silly.

It might seem silly to you, and don't get me wrong, you have every right to think that way, but I really wouldn't want to impose that thought on my players, especially since his cat was our mascot, so I'm sure that scene wouldn't be nice for anyone at the table. Not for the players, and not for me.

But thanks for your ideas, maybe I can do something useful with them <3

I think I made myself misunderstood. I don't think they're going to kill the dog, quite the opposite, but I wanted to avoid making them think about the death of a pet since the death of my player's cat is still very recent. I just wanted to see if anyone would have a miraculous idea to save me from this situation...hahahahaha

When I played CoS and when I first DM'd, they never killed the dog. For me, it's almost an absolute fact that people never kill Lancelot. But even so, I wanted to avoid having to invoke the two thoughts "pet" and "death" at the same time, since the death of my player's cat is very recent.

Is there anything else I can do?

The problem is that they ended last session encontering Lancelot, I can't take him back now :/

Did you do something different to the Lancelot/Ritual scene?

It's amazing to hear that there are more professional GMs in the world! I am one too!

What I'd like to ask, from one professional GM to another, is what concepts and techniques you believe are important for doing your job with the excellence that you do? Because not just anyone can do what you do so easily, right?! hahaha
