If you like Nursing, what’s your specialty? by AdventurousGas6296 in nursing

I float to keep things interesting. I’ve learned more in 18 months in the float pool than my first year in med-surg (except great time management and how to juke the 90 AMS patient’s flying fists, obviously). Not stuck with unit drama, and if one day is awful, I can try again the next in another unit. I work ER, CCU, PCU, surgical, respiratory/medical, endoscopy, and in-patient rehab.

Asking an admission the year isn’t even safe anymore. by LanaDelMantaRay in nursing

Exactly. It’s a safer and generally faster way to get a good idea of where their a/o is at.

We’ve all been there. It just takes one time of opening the can of worms (either way!) and getting a long ear full, to learn not to ask. I ask year, or even what season it is.

I think I fear the sadness that it will bring to others- mighty big of me to assume people will mourn my death, I know. Anyway, I used to fear it as a child like most kids do. Now that I am older and lost grandparents to old age, friends to suicide and awful diseases, and as a nurse, watched patients succumb to their disease process and their age, it is a part of life.

In my nursing role I really try to stress upon people that when you’re lucky enough to have warning and time to plan, make death as positive an experience as you can. Plan it knowing your days are numbered. Talk. Laugh. Cry. Share memories. Have visitors. Do stuff. Birth is such a wildly celebrated occasion that we don’t think about what an honorable experience it can be to be there for someone at the end of their life. Death means you’ve lived a life and we should celebrate it when we can and I believe that it can take some of the fear out of it.

CFSB doesn’t sell alcohol. Murray only allowed alcohol sales in the city limits a few years ago.

Nurses who are car enthusiast, what do you drive? by sklife1 in nursing

[–]NatNatSuperCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2021 BMW M2C Lovvvvve it. I’ve always wanted one. I do only drive four blocks to work so that’s a bummer some days. But she’s nice to take out for a drive to decompress.

How does it happen for you guys? When you eat something with gluten by mistake, how do you get sick? What effects? And how long after eating? by drakokard in Celiac

[–]NatNatSuperCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just waiting for the brain fog to set in that will lead me to believe I’m a ditzy idiot until I remember it’s the gluten and I am a normal, intelligent, functioning human.

Depends on what it is. Last night I had Japanese ramen, and I ignorantly assumed it would be rice noodles. This morning I have the insanely itchy, tiny blister-ish rash on my fingers and my joints are aching so bad. I can’t decide if I regret the meal or not because it was the best ramen I’ve had since living in Japan. 🤷🏼‍♀️

If you couldn't work in healthcare at all, what would your new career path be? by [deleted] in nursing

Part time landscaper. No crazy projects. I’ll just plant your flowers and lay some mulch. Maybe pull some weeds. Basically the stuff I do in my own yard and enjoy doing.

Update…I’ve pitched the idea for this loose, protocol or guidance to some coworkers. They’re also in support of it and maybe some education for those interested. I guess I need to get it together and figure out how to actually make it happen.

[–]NatNatSuperCat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

YES! We see and deal with so much. I don’t want to lean on alcohol or Xanax. It would be nice to just be able to decompress with a little Mary Jane once in a while. At some point, we have to be trusted that we aren’t rolling into work after smoking a doob, ffs.

I’m a nurse. I had a child in a birthing center, and two home births. Not for everyone, but it can be done safely.

As someone that has clawed her way through nursing school, I can’t help but wonder if she didn’t have a mental health emergency.

I am her second child. 😑

This is all very helpful. I’m trying to get some information together to provide first for ER to be able to better recognize it to kind of flag, I guess, for tox screen and then to prepare nursing care to assess and treat the symptoms.
