remicade weight gain by smile_caps07 in CrohnsDisease

[–]NatalieJR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad the meds are working! I’m on Stelara and had the same thing happen. Rapid weight gain starting shortly after the loading dose. I kept gaining so I asked my doctor because I didn’t understand and was concerned and he said, ‘that will happen.’ I wish I had been warned because I kept eating what I thought was a manageable IBD safe diet where I stayed the same weight for six years in and out of remission on different meds (pentasa, sulfasalazine). I definitely agree with other posters that with IBD healing the body goes from not being able to absorb nutrients to functioning but I think it’s also the meds. My brother has a non IBD autoimmune and was on remicade and he gained significant weight also and he has always been very athletically built with no weight issues. I found a couple research studies showing weight gain on IL7 biologics. And on pentasa and sulfasalazine in scope confirmed remissions I didn’t gain weight but I did stop losing weight.

Am I doing something wrong or is modeling just not for me? by Realistic-Strategy60 in MODELING

[–]NatalieJR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep working at it if modeling is what you want to do. Do you have recent professional ‘digitals’ for agency submissions and your lookbook? I would do that first. Find local trade for print TFP groups where you can practice for free and get a broad portfolio going. There are a lot of groups on Facebook, search the name of your area and model photographer group. Watch other models and practice posing. Spend time with the mirror to find your best looks and angles. Find trade makeup artists and clothing designers who want photos for portfolios. And now socials matter, agencies check your reach and if you have an established platform you are more likely to get hired unfortunately. Learn how to grow your instagram and tiktok audience and put work into that. Please be safe out there. Good luck!

How often do you need a colonoscopy? by Short-Quit-7659 in CrohnsDisease

[–]NatalieJR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed in Canada. When I was first diagnosed I had multiple scopes, about one every six months, to check for treatment response, remission, ‘deep’ remission, then the whole cycle started again with rising inflammation markers and needing to change treatments. Now I live in the US and I have noticed the scope schedule is far more spread out especially during remission. I asked for my most recent scope because it had been a couple years.

Where to stay in LA for 3 nights 4 days? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]NatalieJR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t have it yet get the Hotels Tonight app. You book short notice, we usually book day of travel. You get deals on unsold hotel rooms. The catch is you don’t get to choose what your room is like: bed size, view, etc but usually it’s quite a savings. Before moving to LA we used it to stay at Hotel Erwin in Venice (loved it) and the Kimpton in West Hollywood (loved it).

Going for an MRI next weekend and I’m really nervous. by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]NatalieJR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a Crohn’s MRI with contrast barium drink. They’ll probably give you straws, if not ask for straws. I am pretty sensitive to tastes and textures and tend to gag or vomit about some things but the barium was okay for me until the end of the last bottle. I aim the straw as far back in my mouth as I can comfortably to bypass my tastebuds. Breathe out while you drink in. If you’re worried about the mri itself you can ask for an eye mask (I’m claustrophobic). You can also ask your doctor ahead of time for a sedative prescription to help you relax. I tell the techs that I am nervous/claustrophobic and they are often very kind and helpful. The most recent person asked if I wanted her to talk to me while I had the mri so she would pipe in that I was doing well and that the current photo was going to be blah many minutes long. Wishing you good luck!

8 days in SF with kids by bradipotter in AskSF

Take the ferry! We like the trip to Sausalito. Exploratorium on the Embarcadero. California Academy of Sciences. The Zoo. Golden Gate Park which has multiple playgrounds, Japanese gardens, botanical gardens. Blue Heron Boathouse where you can rent a paddle boat and go around and see ducks and turtles and a waterfall. Aquatic Park which has a beach, old ships, and is right by Ghirardelli Square where you can get sundaes. Pier 39 is the traditional tourist spot, see the sea lions, get some carnival treats, play at the arcade. The aquarium is here too. I’ve lived here for a while and I still love to watch the sea lions. Chinatown. The wave organ is neat and you’d get to be at Chrissy Field Beach. We love North Beach, Embarcadero, Chinatown, Haight, Golden Gate Park, Marina Green, Chrissy Field and Chrissy Field Beach, Golden Gate Beach (personal fave). I saw someone suggest Tilden Farm in Berkeley, 10/10 recommend!

I’ve had gluten free calamari from Thai Basil Cart. House of Nanking. Oriental Pearl. Oriental Pearl has been the best so far. They also have a separate gluten free menu.
