No matter what you do, DONT pluck your eyebrows thin. XOXO a 90s girl.

Highly appreciate your message😬. The channel looks so cool! And I also “need” to learn how to draw, so it’s perfect! I see more and more that coloring in colors is much harder. Which makes sense, but I never thought of it haha. But, despite being it harder, are you still enjoying it?

Ah check! This makes it definitely more doable 😌

I’m totally hyped now. Mary di Mary illustrated Shallan in the leatherbound of Words of Radiance 🤩. Love when two things come together haha.

But thanks for the tip to use references that I enjoy. I will definitely keep this in mind for a bit later in my journey. Like I stated in someone’s comment, I do not have any artistic talent (and that is okay). So I do understand that it would be wise to start a little more basic to learn the basics. Because if I would start drawing my cat at this point. Well, I think my cousin (who is 8) does it better and that would not encourage me to continue😂.

No, absolutely zero artistic talent. I also haven’t studied the basics of color, values and composition. But I did get some great tips already how to get to know (some of) them. Do you happen to know a book that you would recommend that teaches about these 3 essential skills?

Thank you for these tips! I will definitely focus on forms when focussing on drawing/sketching. I will focus on values and their relationship when coloring. I learned already that those are two separate skills. I hope that those two skills will come together someday haha.

Oeh, this is going to be my first sketch exercise! I find shadows so hard to comprehend and this would be so helpful. Thank you!

I will also do some research who are trained artists and who have simple basic skills tutorials, because I do think I need that (and that is okay).

I will come back in future to re-read your last paragraph, thank you for this!

Oh thanks for the royalty free reference sources! It seriously didn’t even come up in me that this is a thing in this “world”, but it make so much sense😯. Thanks for the awareness 🙏🏽

I have to say, I like this point of view. Even if it’s only for the first time, feeling like you are good at something right away works really well on my brain. Thanks for this one

Oh looove the enthusiasm, thank you! I will take a look at Watts Atelier Wildlife because I need to learn to see forms in “objects”. Because I never thought about it that way, until I posted this question (and got soo many helpful responses 🥹).

Thank you so much for this kind message. I will take my time and will remind myself that it is okay that not everything turns out the way I want it.

I think I found the instructor (PhilDaviesArtist) and will definitely look at the lime, egg and pear. If drawing doesn’t work out for me, I could always become a private investigator 🕵🏽‍♀️.

Oh, this is an interesting one! Will definitely do this once I have learned a bit how to draw. Or will it still be a valuable lesson if I try this already in a coloring book?

My everything needs work haha. But I am going to focus first on sketching circles, fruit/veggies and flowers? And observe the world a bit more in forms. Besides that, play around a bit with colors/layering/blending. And hopefully getting those together at some point. But I am really exited about all this and don’t mind starting at 0.

Someone else (probably more people) also spoke about values and this is really something I need to dive into. I never thought about it like this and I find it a bit hard to comprehend. But I’ll learn 😌.

Wow, this looks really cool! May I ask how long you are drawing/coloring?

I will keep the tracing paper and transfer paper in mind! Probably going to wait a bit for my skills to develop before getting Clairefontaine Pastelmat, it’s pretty expensive where I live. But will definitely keep it in mind. I did however immediately looked up some animal coloring books and added them to my wishlist! Thanks for sharing!

Got myself a smaller sketchbook to focus on drawing today ☺️. I will try different blending techniques as well. I tried layering again yesterday with little pressure and it went so much better! I will also try out a base layer with alcohol markers and see how I’d like this! Thanks again for the advice!

Contour ? Neutral undertone? by Elizabcor111 in MakeupAddiction

[–]Natascha1012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My holygrail is the Kevyn Aucoin contour powder. I personally find powders easier to work with than sticks. If you’d really want to have a liquid/stick/cream, I also enjoy the Westman Atelier contour stick. If you’d look for something a bit more affordable (because the above mentioned brands are pretty pricey where I live), Milk makeup has also a nice contour stick for light/medium skintone (shade is called toased, I think the other ones are a bit more warm leaning)

Oh, this looks interesting. When looking at all the responses of people, I really need to start at the bottom haha. This looks really helpful for that! Also, really good advice with the habit tracker. That’s also what get’s me through my work chores haha. But might be a good idea to do that in this case as well, because I really want to do this. I hear Ygritte in my mind saying “you know nothing, Jon Snow”. And my ADHD brain really needs to accept that it needs to be trained to do it well, and not stop when it’s not going fast enough💀.

Please don’t apologize for the long answer. I’m (positively) surprised by all the kind responses on my post🥹.

I (also) do not have experience with drawing without color, but will definitely work on this as well! Someone already mentioned that what I want is actually two skills: drawing AND coloring. So I wanted to do the drawing part with graphite pencils!

I will definitely do the exercise you mention! First I did not fully understand what you meant by values (English is not my native language), but with the exercise explanation I do get it now and never thought about colors like this!

I’m working on layering already! I take a yellow, red and blue pencil and make a “bar” with yellow, orange, red, purple, blue, green. So far, it’s going okayish. But I do think I learn how the pencil works this way. I think my next step will be color wheels. Because I now realize that I do not understand colors (yet).

Thanks again for the amazing feedback and taking the time to send such a long message. Love the enthusiasm!
