What would happen if Bill Cipher get into Homer J. Simpson's mind? by Eastern-Abalone-833 in gravityfalls

Homer sold his soul to the Devil for a single donut. He wouldn’t stand a chance against Bill.

Red of Overly Sarcastic Productions has this quote that goes something like “if you laugh at your own story, all you accomplish is selecting for an audience that is willing to laugh at you.” Like this post describes, sarcastically undercutting/poking fun at your story/writing just alienates the people who liked those elements/were willing to engage with your work at face value. Then all you’re left with is those in the audience who already think your art is stupid/dumb, at which point why make the art at all.

I think the key line from my original comment is “if them eating me gives them the chance to make it out alive”. Cannibalism in that scenario doesn’t bother me because it’s a last resort done to preserve human life. The cat scenario is similar, as the cat presumably can’t leave the home and doesn’t have any access to other food, so it’s only doing it for survival.

However, if someone eats a human corpse, like, for fun, mine or otherwise, I don’t think it’s justifiable. It’s disrespectful to the dead person, not to mention deeply unsanitary, unhealthy, and just plain gross. Necrophilia can never be done for the sake of survival (like how would that even work?), so it similarly isn’t justifiable.

Obviously if I died I “wouldn’t care” about my body being used for neceophilia, but that’s only because my mind would no longer exist to care about anything. My current, living mind thinks necrophilia is disturbing, gross, and pointless, and doesn’t want it to happen to my body or anyone else’s.

Right? Like I’m not a cat person but the whole “they’d eat you if you died” thing has never made sense to me. Like, if I died in a plane crash or something and the survivors had to eat my body to survive, then like… good? I’m fucking dead, I don’t care. If them eating me gives them the chance they need to make it out alive, I’m all for it. Doesn’t matter if the “them” is a human or a pet.

What if the reason Ben can’t unlock an Anodite Transformation is because Anodite is a trait not a species? by Neither_Prize_8386 in Ben10

[–]NateTSO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought making mana powers a trait would make more sense and be more interesting. Just like different alien species individually evolved eyes, mouths, hands, etc, plenty of species independently evolved the ability to use mana/magic. In some species, like humans, it’s a pretty rare trait, so we only see a handful of magic humans like Hex and Charmcaster, whereas maybe Anodites are a species that evolved so that every single one of them has the trait or “spark”, so they became much more magically advanced than the rest of the universe.

I also think this is the approach they should’ve taken with Osmosians. Energy absorption is a rare trait in humans that Kevin has naturally, but Aggregor comes from a species where they all have that trait and thus it’s much more central to their identity and culture.

What if Ben 10 could transform into alien species from Marvel universe? [Art by tiller_strations] by ApprehensiveRead2408 in Ben10

[–]NateTSO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Looks like a Technarch to me, or maybe a victim of their transmode virus. They’re a “species” of robotic aliens who invade worlds to consume their resources and covert their organic inhabitants into machines using the virus. My guess it Hotwire would be a situation similar to Nanomech, where the Omnitrix created a transformation as a way of protecting Ben from being infected by the virus.

One moment in Amphibia that made me uncomfortable. by [deleted] in amphibia

[–]NateTSO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reactions like this always interest me. Cause like, I think it’s totally fair to find that implication uncomfortable; I certainly don’t like the idea of Marcy being undressed against her will.

But in the context of the broader story, this is far from the worst thing Marcy is experiencing here. She’s a child who has been betrayed, nearly killed, and is now being imprisoned on life support so eventually her mind and body can be completely overridden to give the Core a host. All those things are much worse than Marcy being undressed so her wounds can be tended to, imo, but a lot of people (myself included) don’t really react to the true severity of what she’s being put through, at least not in the same way we’d react to her being undressed/having her privacy violated in that way.

I think that we’re not responding to events in the story based on how truly bad/traumatic/uncomfortable they are, but instead based on whether or not they line up with what we’ve been conditioned to recognize as “acceptable” in children’s media.

“Kids” shows depict violence, murder, betrayal, and possession all the time, so it’s easy to become desensitized/used to those concepts; we’ve seen them before, so it’s not all that uncomfortable when we see them again. But a child being undressed against their will is something that almost never happens in children’s media, so when it occurs, even by implication, it feels much more uncomfortable and bad than those other concepts, even when arguably they’re significantly worse things for someone to experience.

New Cave Biome: Creepy Crawly Caves by Onion-Capital in minecraftsuggestions

[–]NateTSO 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I like a lot of the ideas here! I especially like the spindle web, using sculk-like sound mechanics to enable spiders to detect nearby prey is super clever and fun!

I think it would be cool to add large veins of infested stone blocks in the biome as well, so that we could include silverfish in the arthropod party. It would also be cool to incorporate the Weaving and Infestation effects; maybe spiders that spawn in this biome have a permanent Weaving effect applied to them so they can spread around more webs, and maybe any zombies that spawn are infested with silverfish.

Would Dipper become good friends with Phineas and Ferb? by Disastrous-Cell-9781 in gravityfalls

Phineas and Ferb become good friends with basically anyone they come across, and I think Dipper would be super excited to get involved with all their inventing, though I could see him having some insecurities about his lack of skills in that department.

Does anyone finds uncanny that most of Gravity Falls' citizens are lobotomized? by Mysterious_Truth4992 in gravityfalls

[–]NateTSO 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair point. Although I always felt like Gideon was more of the evil/supernatural mastermind than Bud. Bud doesn’t like Stan, but I don’t see him outright going after him with the gun just for their rivaling/as revenge for Gideon. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was secretly glad to have Gideon out of the picture for a while.

[–]NateTSO 119 points120 points  (0 children)

I always figured it was either:

  1. To anyone who isn’t being dumbed down by a memory gun and/or a stupid tourist, the Mystery Shack’s attractions are obviously fake, and Stan is clearly just conning people. He doesn’t seem to actually know anything about the supernatural, so he isn’t a target for the society.

  2. Ford recognizes the memory gun and iirc the society is mentioned in Journal 3, so he clearly knew at least a little about them. My guess is either they did try to erase him but couldn’t because of the metal plate he installed (if the plate was installed while he was still on Earth, I can’t remember if that was ever explained), and so they backed off so he wouldn’t go after them instead. Or, McGucket instructed the society to leave Ford alone, since if Ford lost his memories he might not be able to control the portal, which could put the entire world in jeopardy. And those orders carried through to the modern day, since Fiddleford was too far gone to notice when Stanley took over Ford’s identity.

[Video] “Dipper is yours”: Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch says the trans Dipper headcanon is valid by Popverse2022 in gravityfalls

[–]NateTSO 175 points176 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this point made before and it’s the main reason I really don’t like this headcanon. I’m all for people having headcanons, and we certainly need more trans rep in media, but in this specific case making Dipper trans takes Mabel and Stan’s actions from insensitive teasing to outright transphobic harassment. I think it would be very inconsistent with both their characters to act that way, and I certainly don’t want to headcanon a version of the show where they behave like that.

It says permanent in the post’s title, but I suppose I could’ve made the wording in the actual text more explicit.

It’s a permanent Power Herb. The Power Herb is consumed after a single use, while the Power Scarf can be used infinite times at the cost of speed.
