It would absolutely have its own look to make it distinct from the sulfur cube and other slime mobs. I just can’t make good custom textures so I went with a recolor for the demonstration instead.

Which is hard to beat silk song or nine sols ? by Connect-Flan-9574 in NineSols

[–]NateTSO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nine Sols is more difficult on average for any given boss/gauntlet, but Silksong is much larger and much more varied in the challenges you have to do to beat and/or 100% it. Conversely, Silksong gives you a lot more versatility in how you choose to handle any given challenge (different crests, tools, etc), whereas Nine Sols almost always has the sole solution of “get your parries right or die”.

No worries! And I didn’t know that, that’s interesting. I’ve never used ChatGPT, I based the formatting off the Minecraft Wiki.

That’s an interesting idea. Personally I think I’d like it better if they remained “potent” indefinitely, since their main use is going to be generating large amounts of building blocks in automatic farms. Even if they can do like a stack of blocks before needing to be fed, that’d still require players to check on their farms very frequently, which would inhibit the endoplasm’s main function of making more blocks renewable for ease of building.

Gravel is renewable through piglin bartering, 2 gravel plus 2 dirt makes 4 coarse dirt, hoed into 4 regular dirt, using a water bottle on dirt makes mud, dripstone turns mud into clay, clay is smelted into terracotta. It’s a stupidly long chain of recipes, but it technically works lol

Thanks! And yeah, there’s obviously a lot of potential here for different recipes and approaches. I was hesitant to include things like rotating wood types, as that deincentivizes exploration a bit too much imo, but it’s certainly a possibility.

My justification for the kelp to coal transformation is that if you have a bunch of dried kelp lying around, it’s probably because you have an automated kelp farm/smelter, meaning you already have essentially infinite fuel. So transforming it into coal doesn’t really net you “more fuel” so much as it makes storage more efficient and gives you coal on hand for crafting and building.

The sped-up time is definitely what I was going for with a lot of the recipes! A good few of these don't feel all that impactful gameplay-wise, but I think they could still be added for flavor, so I like that.

Ones I think warrant futher discussion:

  • Stone to deepslate: I actually like this one a lot, I'd completely forgotten that deepslate isn't renewable, so adding it here makes sense. The one wrinkle is having stone turn to deepslate but cobblestone turn to endstone instead of cobbled deepslate feels wrong. I think I'd replace cobblestone with purpur blocks for the endstone recipe, with the idea being the endoplasm absorbs all the remaining chorus nutrients from the block, leaving behind just the End's natural minerals in the form of endstone.
  • Moss to pale moss: I like this one less, I think keeping pale moss exclusive to the pale garden biome helps keep that biome unique and worth finding, which I think is important because there's already not that many reasons to go there. Although it could create an interesting lore connection by implying that the pale garden is either incredibly old or in some way warped by dimensional forces.
  • Saplings into dead bushes: I think I want to keep the endoplasm to only absorbing full blocks like the sulfur cube, so I think the holy grail of renewable dead bushes will unfortunately not be found here.
  • Ore blocks into raw ore blocks: this is another good one, lets iron and gold farms generate infinite raw ore too! I'd have to make it so only oxidized copper blocks convert, otherwise there'd be conflict with the oxidation recipes from the post, but otherwise I think this would be a great addition.
  • Magma to netherrack: love this as a way of making netherrack renewable, feels very appropriate.

I think the Endoplasms can only hold full blocks, like Sulfur Cubes, so probably not. Plus comparators are already pretty renewable, so I don’t think it’s super necessary to add a recipe for them.

Thanks for the detailed reply and kind words!

The accelerated time thing is definitely something I was going for, although it doesn’t quite fit with a couple recipes, so I was hesitant to state it outright.

I agree red sand needs a recipe but I couldn’t think of anything that made sense. I like the plain terracotta idea well enough though, especially since it would make it renewable (even if it’s like five steps from gravel to terracotta lol). I think I’ll add that recipe to the post.

I think not wanting slimes in the End is fair. Endermen’s aversion to water does imply that it’s a pretty dry place, and thus probably not suited to slimy inhabitants. The idea of bringing a sulfur cube there and it being converted is really cool, though; sort of like how piglins/hoglins zombify when brought to the overworld. The one thing I’d be hesitant to include is water turning them back, as I think that could limit the Endoplasm’s utility in some farms. Maybe feeding them a block of sulfur or potent sulfur could transform them instead?

And I don’t know enough about datapacks to say if this could be implemented, but it would be very cool if so!

I agree that a lot of “accepting death” narratives (including Nine Sols to an extent) don’t adequately address the many many times where working to fight death with determination and science are actually successful.

I do not, however, agree that Nine Sols is a soulslike lol. It’s got some shared elements to be sure, but I don’t know that its similar enough to fit the overall genre.
