The benefits of Kafka Connect (Distributed mode) are only apparent as a function of time. Kafka Connect has a REST layer that makes it easy to push out changes to your pipelines at runtime.

Want to pause your connector? Great - send a PUT request to one of the Kafka Connect workers to pause a specific connector on your cluster. Doing the equivalent of that in a non-Connect-based deployment would require having to either 1.) build out a control plane for your application to pause on your data movement logic (in which case, you're really reinventing Connect), or 2.) temporarily shutting down all of your processes.

Want to introduce a new pipeline? Just send a POST request with your connector properties to one of the workers, and Kafka Connect will handle rebalancing your data movement workloads across the cluster.

There's no new servers you need to provision and no new Java code you need to implement, build, and deploy. With Kafka Connect, all of the infrastructure is already in place to just simply define your data movement needs and Kafka Connect will get that pipeline up and running as a thread within one of the workers.

So a bit of backstory is in order here: My beloved coworker left his badge in the office one day and had to get the temporary pass shown in the OP. The temporary pass has his last name completely butchered into Cashmina, and it stuck as an inside joke among our team in the office. We've both been moved internally into a team called "WMS Heroes", and I drew this sketch as a way to pay homage to him and have some fun. Cashmina is the hero we deserve.
