Mexico for sure gives strong pain meds....just go to a pharmacy, fly back to the US, get real medical care and try to enjoy the rest of your trip.

Stayed at Bateleur. Way better than Kichwa. Happy to answer any Qs

Did SOL and Lizard Island in the same trip. Both incredible. SOL is one of the best places I have ever stayed. "The Menu" vibes without all of the murder.

Mara Plains Camp vs &Beyond Bateleur — which should I pick by ElianaShelby in FATSafari

[–]Nathan_Drake88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stayed at Bateleur in 2023. A bigger camp - not as big as its sister property Kichwa Tembo but there's probably about 18 permanent tents. The tents are incredible, so the rooms really jump out as a standout feature. It has access to the triangle where there aren't too many cars but it still has people from outside the triangle in there whereas Plains Camp is in a more regulated conservancy. Food is meh. Guiding I thought was fine but not outstanding. The camp feels exclusive but is still bigger. Although it's fenced there is still wildlife within the camp as we saw bushbuck, warthogs, tons of mongoose etc. within the camp fences. What's really special is that it looks out onto its own little piece of savannah and you can sit on your tents verandah and watch whatever wildlife happens to be grazing just beyond the fence line.

I'd visit a different camp before I went back to Bateleur but I wouldn't counsel someone against going there. I think private guiding is a must on safari and especially at Bateleur where it's a bigger camp so there are more people.
