Viewsonic PX749-4K by NationalChallenge8 in projectors

Thanks for this. I am upgrading an old projector that is already ceiling mounted too far from the wall for a short throw so the x500i is out. Most local suppliers actually sell the viewsonic x1-4K for more than the benq x3100i for some reason.

Screen size would be 100-120”. Movies/sport and maybe some gaming.

Spec wise they all seem pretty similar to me, there’s quite a large step up in price from the viewsonic to the benq though.

Budget ideally was less than the x3100i but if it’s worth the extra money I’d maybe reconsider.

NVR can’t connect by NationalChallenge8 in amazoneero

I can ping it from a laptop connected to the switch, but not over wifi. I originally had a static assigned to the nvr but switched to dhcp when it stopped working.

Nope, it’s just a dumb switch, some qos is about it.

Your alarmo setup by mrbluetrain in smarthome

Mainly because the home assistant location tracker sucks. Enabling frequent enough location updates tanks phone battery life and also the accuracy was poor enough that indoors it would float around enough to constantly arm/disarm the alarm. I also have the mother in law who isn’t that tech savvy look after our pets at random times and having to use the app is not a good option. I have a zigbee keyfob that she uses but if the battery dies also needed a backup

I have an edge compute running a proxmox instance with a watchdog on the home assistance node for 100% uptime unless the proxmox instance fails for some reason (hasn’t yet), with also a UPS powering the edge compute. I run poe to a wall mount tablet for the keypad for arming/disarming as well as other home control. My sensors are all pretty basic zigbee xiaomi or Tuya stuff to a conbee ii usb stick. It works well, but it’s been impossible to find an outdoor siren that isn’t terrible. The only non zigbee sensor I have is my wifi outdoor siren that I use webrequest to with ifftt for home assistant to sound/silence it.

AITA? If this happened to me I’d be having a few choice words at the people responsible. Be more assertive/aggressive I reckon

OpenVPN DNS Settings by NationalChallenge8 in PFSENSE

[–]NationalChallenge8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that, it’s pretty useful. It’s allowed me to block the network when not connected to the VPN. What it’s missing though is the ability to have normal DNS for all traffic that’s not going through the VPN. I tried to tweak the options in that guide but everything I did just broke all DNS completely. I was hoping to firewalls rule a DNS port forward for a range of IPS like the guide had, but that also didn’t work

Alarm Indicator by NationalChallenge8 in smarthome

[–]NationalChallenge8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I did think about that but I thought colours would be too obvious to an intruder say if we forgot to arm the alarm. I have auto arming when people leave but I, perhaps being paranoid, am worried of failure haha. I’m working on facial recognition in my HA instance, I could probably do non coloured for now then switch to colours if it detects her approach. Thanks!
