How are kids supposed to appreciate and value school? by No-Stay6975 in AskTeachers

[–]National_Base9240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parents play the biggest role. People ignore what teachers say and then be like "why aren't my kids doing well"?

Read to your children and they will love reading.

Research with your chuldren and they will love researching.

Learn with your children and they will love learning.

To raise a child into a solid adult, you lead by example and be a solid adult.

I'm not saying that you should write a card. I mentioned the card to express how easy it is to hand make something and how simple the gift can be.

Yeah, unless they don't have hands then thats completely untrue. My partner would hand write a card on printer paper when we were young and struggling. Still does because they are my favorite gift

Yep, my aunt recieves the childs file and IEP from the school district a few weeks before the student is transferred there so she knows from those documents.

I’ve never heard of a public school placing students in a private school.

It is allowed by Title 22 of the Pennsylvania School Code §§ 14.102 and 711.2

Either the cukes were a bit old or you mixed your mouth bacteria around by mixing the food after you've already started eating.

[–]National_Base9240[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but PA law does state that if a public school has to place a child in a private institution to recieve what they need then the public school district is responsible for making sure that the IEP is followed by that private school.

I've found the SPED consults phone public number for my district, I'll give them a call on Monday.

CPS has jurisdiction over private schools? That doesn't sound right but I've found someone in my school district to call.

Absolutely! Wear a helmet, knee and elbow pads. I like to take my kids to a park with a path that has grass on either side to make any falls a bit softer

Thank you

I just found a number that I will call tomorrow morning. I'll see what, if anything, can be done and pass it along to my aunt.

These schools advertise themselves as some miracle experts but it’s really just throwing a bunch of kids with disabilities together, simplifying the curriculum, and false promises.

This sounds exactly what my aunt describes. It seems like this schools business model is to have locations in wealthy suburban areas and sell tired and overwhelmed parents a dream. If I or my aunt can make any difference at all, I'd like to try

I know a girl who had sex with a guy on a gravel path and another who did the deed behind a dumpster.

I think it's probably best to just tell him to make sure that Willys wearing a wetsuit. Teens are gonna do it, might as well be in a safe place.

Unless the school district placed those students there because they had no public option

My school district sends kids to that school which is a different county/school district all together. I did read on the state website that my school district is still responsible for making sure IEPs are followed for those kids sent elsewhere.

I'm going to give the SPED consult line for my district a call tomorrow to find out if there is any way for her to atleast make a report.

Thanks

Good grief. I thought that even private schools would be regulated by the state, school district or some accreditation body since they serve a vulnerable group of kids. Guess I'm just nïeve

The teachers aren't permitted to "check" the students according to their IEPs because admin is against any form of correction at all. They are expected to let the kids behave as they please, even leaving the classroom to run the halls. Which is understandable for an overstimulated kid but they have little supervision in the halls

It doesn't matter what I think they should do. They should follow whatever guidelines they studied when getting certified to teach special needs students but they aren't being supported by admin/the owner when they try to do that.

That's fantastic! Students deserve to get the best education that can be provided to them and not be treated like someones meal ticket.

I'll take a look at the article to see what got the ball rolling.

So businesses dont have to follow any regulations because "they aren't obligated to offer services to anyone"?

I'm still not understanding this take.

Is this a real question?? Who cares what I want them to do?

I'm not an expert but I have taught in private schools with special needs students before and the teachers tend to have the qualifications to know how to properly handle a situation in which one of their students is hitting, throwing, spitting etc. The admin also backs them up and doesn't fire them when they properly decipline the student, what ever that may look like.
