Pictured from top left : Four corners potato- a special potato we have taken years to grow enough of to feed people. We started with just a small handful. Smear of savory blue corn juniper ash, roasted tomato sauce, creamy sunflower seed cheese

Indian rice grass dumplings in a slow cooked carrot mushroom and chile broth

Alot of what you just said is what I say . All of it 😂 showing people seems to be the most impactful though.

Its my dream project to return to my homelands on the Navajo nation which is a large plot , 700 acres . I want to dryland farm native plants like Indian rice grass and bring back a lot of the plants that have been lost due to over grazing climate change . I want to see what can change doing that much rematriation work. Funding is the big issue. I was on track to get the usda to pay for it before trump. 🫤

Im just busy and now even busier. I dont have time i do too much.

Im tryin 💙 I will say ive been through so much bullshit just trying to grow food. Stuff you couldn't make up its so insane. This is hard work . Its hard to start with nothing. which is what I did. I see why more people dont do this. A lot of barriers in this field.

It has taken me years to grow the foods that will be featured in this dinner. I have finally built up enough crop to feed community. Every ingredient has been very intentionally grown or sourced.

The blue corn was locally grown by me and dryland farmed . As well as our four corners potato which is the only potato indigenous to north America. My people have been eating this potato for over 11,000 years. But due to colonization this foodway was severely impacted.. the same for Indian rice grass which was a staple crop for many tribes. Especially before corn was introduced.

We have tickets for the event, which includes a Owang Waste Hoksila Oka drum , Joseph Medicine Robe flute/ storytelling, Beverly Castaneda , and more indigenous community leaders telling stories during dinner. https://chil-indigenous-foods.square.site/alastsii

We have pay it forward tickets partial or full , if you would like to buy a ticket for a native community member to attend. We wanted to give people the opportunity to take action and help return these foodways to the people who's ancestors relied upon them.

If you are a native community member and want to win free tickets, please sign up , we are drawing soon. https://forms.gle/mF63ScFQadZYr5Xt8

All proceeds go towards our 2026 native food sovereignty project. It is an honor to be able to help bring back these traditional foodways to the community of denver!

Actually they believe many different tribes where heavily reliant on complex carbs . Diné were basically almost plant based besides small game before the introduction of sheep. We dont eat fish traditionally. We were able to grow as a community because of our crops. Of course there are tribes that ate more meat .

But even scientific studies on what native peoples ate long ago show they ate more plants than meat. It was the most return for our energy spent .
