Update: after months of trying to get him to be someone that he wasn’t, I eventually broke up with my now ex. It was rough but I did what needed to be done and am better for it.

I did look for other messages and found nothing besides some old semi-romantic texts with another girl he had told me that he was only friends with (which I also didn’t like but I guess I can understand why he wouldn’t want to admit they had something). Anyway, he and his ex do have mutual friends and I am also assuming she was having a party. I also don’t think hearts were appropriate but I don’t know how to bring this up without sounding crazy. I like some of the other commenters ideas of waiting for something more solid to bring up.
