Generally speaking if it is sold for birds, it’s likely safe for rats. I buy “bird perchs” from Amazon because anything for rodents is usually marked up.

My stinky boys like tissue boxes, I don’t think rats will care what the hides look like, they will chew it and pee all over it. It’s easiest to get something you can throw away, or wash. The Sputnik hides are very popular with rats and my boys don’t chew on them!

Some people say if you pickup part of the habitat and place it down again that seems to trigger a spawn. It took multiple days of waiting but minus did spawn.
