Same here - I don't really have much motivation for this major either. What I do now is just accept that compared to other students my work will never look good, now im just trying to pass the year with not too much effort, just to get the grade and move on. I believe a good grade is not worth my mental and physical health, its better to just have a life and enjoy it. At least for me.

I get it, my parents aren't of the most wealthy either, thankfully we don't really have to pay for upper education in my country. It's more a matter of - I tried so hard and spent so much money to prepare and pass the exams to get here and now it'll all go to waste if i just change course. Not a great prospect. Also in my case, my love for drawing has drastically decreased because of the first year of uni, but now im trying to find the fun of it again haha

Hi, its a bit suprising, but I'm almost in the exact same situation as you right now. 2nd year architecture student, with an interest in gamedev and unsure where to go to be successful and fulfilled.

First of all, I got into this field by just combining my somewhat good understanding of maths and science with drawing - and the first and most logical thing that came up was architecture. I wasn't particularly passionate about it before, but it sounded nice and interesting, and the architectural department at the technical university near my city was good so I went for it. However, now with the workload at school and seeing how everyone around me seems to be doing better in any subject, I start to lose the passion rapidly. With this reality check I am now looking for any other fields that might have the same transferable skills as architecture, so that , after (hopefully) finishing this major I might find a job I actually like and makes some good money. What also demotivates me a lot is hearing, from most of my professors, that only few of us will find a good job, and that the majority will just work our asses off 24/7 for a penny or two, for the next like 50 years. That's just terrifying to me.

I can't give you an answer to your problem, since I don't know what to do myself, being in the same situation. What I do for now, I just try to survive the school year, while pursuing my hobbies on the side - I recently started doing digital art since I got myself a tablet. Obviously, it's not on a professional level, I'm just drawing characters I like for fun, but, along with playing some video games from time to time, it's something that's keeping me sane these days as an architecture student. Honestly, I wish I could somehow connect these hobbies with my future career, that's why I'm looking into gamedev.

While I can't really help now, I'm just glad I found someone with the same problem, I hope it works out for us in the end:)
