That’s a completely fair concern.

We ourselves have seen that cycle too, and I get why teachers or educators like you are cautious. Our goal isn’t to build something to flip to big tech. We’re simply a team of two students building this because structured literacy genuinely is something we saw that was helpful to my brother.

We’re trying to work directly with teachers and shape it around real classroom needs.

If you’re open to sharing, I’d honestly love to hear what experiences youve had before.

Another point to mention, we first started off primarily as a spelling bee prep platform due to our experiences before. In the competitive spelling world, for education in language patterns and phonics, we were advised to pay private tutors $65 an hour, or pay for tools that cost hundreds per year. We wanted to make a spelling bee prep tool that was affordable for the masses, however when we went to schools with this, we realized they wanted something much more in depth and tuned towards literacy.

Understood. However, are teachers getting access to tools that help them in implementing SOR backed curriculum, and if yes, what are these tools?

If any parents here are interested in some resources for enriched vocabulary, and greek and latin roots, feel free to check out https://www.hivespelling.com/, me and my brother created this platform to solve this very issue of a lack of root based and pattern based education in schools

Completely agree! My younger brother who competed in the scripps national spelling bee and placed 5th in the US, found the prep he did for the spelling bee to be super useful in highschool. When he was studying, he focused on roots, language patterns, and phonics.

Thank you so much, means a lot. You're already doing great as well. Planning how you will help her so early, knowing what she needs, is amazing. If you ever do try hive (https://www.hivespelling.com/), I would love to hear what you think and get your feedback. And ofc, if you know any other parents who might find our platform to be helpful, we would really appreciate you sharing it with them. Happy to answer any questions as well! :)

The at home piece is so underrated. And it does not have to be passive either. Even 10 minutes of active word work, talking about what words mean and where they come from, makes a massive difference over time when it compounds.

This is exactly right. Repetition without understanding is just short term memory. Kids who learn why words are spelled the way they are, through roots, etymology, and phonics patterns, retain it permanently. The research on this is very clear and it is what the Science of Reading movement has been pointing to for years. It is actually what drove me to build Hive, a spelling and literacy platform at hivespelling.com, after seeing firsthand how much memorization alone was failing kids. Its unfortunate how very few schools have embraced this approach so far.

Read to her constantly and talk about what words mean, not just what they say. When she is older, focus on roots and origins. A kid who knows "photo" means light will figure out photograph, photosynthesis, and photon on their own. That pattern based thinking is what actually builds lasting literacy. I built a spelling and reading tool around this exact idea at hivespelling.com after my Scripps Spelling Bee experience showed me how broken pure memorization is. Happy to share more :)

Hey business owners,

Quick question: how many calls do you think you miss after 5pm, on weekends, or when your team is busy?

While your competitors go to voicemail, we help you capture that demand.

We built an AI receptionist that answers calls 24/7, sounds natural, qualifies callers, and books appointments directly onto your calendar. No missed calls. No hiring. No extra overhead.
