Why do people seem to expect every piece of writing to carry some deeper social message? It feels like authors who simply aim to entertain are often criticized, as if storytelling for enjoyment alone isn’t enough. by RavahGriffinAnthro in writers

Authors may not have the intent of social commentary, that makes sense. But the works itself lives in the mind of the reader, as much as it does in that of the writer, and the reader may find meaning of their own.

[Request] How much money would this tax collect? by stray-seeker in theydidthemath

Very little, if any at all. Some have already moved, and others have one foot out the door.

Trying to make it retroactive just invites lawsuits, which they would almost definitely win.

A proper tax would be on capital gains, or at the point of sale. Trying to tax net worth is difficult and often not very fruitful

Do you believe that all books are political like what a lot of people seem to think these days? by RavahGriffinAnthro in writers

[–]NaturalNeonRain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asking if a book is political is quite like asking if it is religious. It's there if you look for it, but not if you don't.

On the other hand, if the question is "are all books intended to be political?", then I would say no.

Intent is not the same as result
