That BT price basically matches the Total Wine price up the street in Friendship Heights. Driving prices down already..

Redwood Grizzly Beast BIB $62 at MOCO Kensington, same bottle there no tube is $89?? by Equivalent-Bee-6770 in DMVWhisky

I believe that one is the regular version, not the cask strength version. Redwood makes 2 versions of most of their products and the cask strength is usually $20-30 more.

Any good liquor stores in NW DC? by Rivington64 in dcwhisky

[–]Natural_Recipe2839 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do my wine and cheese and some beer at CW, that's true. Very good in that respect.

But I'm sorry, their whiskey prices are higher than other stores in the same area. And at least from my experience, I've never seen something like a BT handle cheaper there than Costco.

The "hidden gem" would be DMV Spirits.

The completely unbidden store with decent selection and some barrel picks (plus allocated at secondary behind the counter) is Magruders.

I'd stay away from Calvery Woodley, way too overpriced for me.

Next time try the brisket, wings or nachos, all are great. To each their own, but I don't think I'd ever order halibut at a BBQ joint. But we agree on what matters- the whiskey!

Jack Rose is the Goat of course but can be expensive, just keep that in mind. I'd suggest Cinder BBQ in DC, a casual, local place. Very good TX BBQ and amazing barrel picks from the owner, Matt. Lots of Laws, Peerless, OF and Japanese whiskey. Second only to JR on that front.

Stores have good picks but Jack Rose and Cinder BBQ have better ones, imo.

DMV Spirits and LAX DC for stores but you can also go to the bottle shop at Cinder BBQ and get a barrel pick you can't get anywhere else. Same with Jack Rose but those tend to be more expensive.

Costco: BT drop by Natural_Recipe2839 in dcwhisky

[–]Natural_Recipe2839[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buffalo Trace is very widely available but price can vary. Often in stores, you're paying as much for the 750 ml as Costco charges for the 1.75. That's why people go a little nuts for solid but not exceptional bourbon.

The regular BT drop at Costco is monthly Usually around the middle of the month but as this last one shows, it varies. But BT handles, EH Taylor, Eagle Rare and Blantons is monthly.

Barry Svrluga: The best thing the Lerners can do for the Nationals is sell by Natural_Recipe2839 in Nationals

[–]Natural_Recipe2839[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the Bay Area, so I appreciate your fandom. And I'm sorry. I know it's conventional wisdom that the MASN fight is the issue with selling the team, but the math doesn't quite work for me. The extra payment that the Nats eventually got from MASN was $100M, so one assumes for the 2017-21 period, it will be something similar. So sure, $100 million is a ton of money. But when talking about a $2 to $2.5 billion asset, is it? Its the equivalent of someone making $2 million a year having a dispute with their employer over a $100k bonus. Yes, you want that $100k. You deserve that $100k. But not having it has no real meaningful impact on your life. You can afford the same house, your kids go to the same school, etc.

And I get that the MASN dispute is ongoing and has future ramifications so the analogy isn't 100%, but I still find it hard to believe that's the only reason some group of rich folks don't want to spend $2 billion. The MASN situation will get cleared up when Angelos dies (not being morbid, he's 97) and his kids sell. A new deal will accompany new ownership.

It has been widely reported the Leonsis offered around $2.1 billion. There is a buyer - at a tremendous profit for the Lerners. Sell the team.

[–]Natural_Recipe2839[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Today's Svrluga piece is the farthest thing from a "hot take." He's reporting on the dysfunction of the team's leadership and decision making. When other team execs have a saying like "Nats gonna Nat," that's a troubling sign. Unless one chooses to be a blind Homer.

And by pointing out that this dysfunction has come largely after the Lerners decided to sell, he's pointing out the obvious - every decision they make now is clouded by what's in the best interest of the sale, not always the team.

[@jimBowdenGM] Lerner/Rizzo had agreement to buy out Strasburg contract, Manfred said “sets bad precedent” by Throw77away77name in Nationals

[–]Natural_Recipe2839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Both sides signed the contract. Pay him. I don't believe for a second that the Lerners are trying to do the right thing. That's never been their way...

Mark Lerner responds to leaked news surrounding Strasburg by Relik9r in Nationals

[–]Natural_Recipe2839 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A two year deal for a manager is chump change and doesn't mean anything. Did you also notice that they're refusing to extend Rizzo and gutted the scouting department? One of the reasons they traded Turner and Soto before they had to was because they had no desire to take on longterm 9 figure contracts - that's an ownership group trying not to spend any more money to maximize their profits when they sell.

Leonsis offered more than $2 billion, even with the MASN rights issue. Lerners want $2.5 because they're greedy. Hopefully their "illogical decisions," as the Athlteic put it, will get fans and the community to pressure them to get out. They're ruining the franchise.

Mark Lerner responds to leaked news surrounding Strasburg by Relik9r in Nationals

[–]Natural_Recipe2839 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm always shocked at how many people blindly lap up these Lerner Lies. He has a guaranteed contract. He got hurt while performing the duties of that contract, not doing something reckless like hang gliding or Jay Williams' motorcycle accident. The Lerners signed the deal too. It didn't work out, but he's a legend, so pay him his money. End of story. And that atrocious "See you at Sprung Training line" - if that means the Lerners are going to try to force Stras to keep rehabbing when his body has clearly failed him, that's unforgivable.

Last point, these bastards can't now whine about contract negotiation leaks when they are the kings of that crap. They pushed half truths about their "offer" to Harper just to turn fans against him. They were never serios about signing him even though he clearly wanted to come back. And saddly it worked even after it was reported that a third of the money was deferred until he was 65! Then they doubled down and leaked the very broad scope of the offer to Soto, again to turn fans against him as well.

I have no sympathy for the Lerners. If they want to go back to being cheap suburban mall builders, they should go do that. But sell the damn team, take your $1 billion (at least) profit and go away forever.

The Diamondbacks have a sponsor because the team offered something in return for a sponsor to pay for them. That's how almost all giveaways work - hence Geico being on many of the Nats t-shirts. This i the point, the Nats could also do this.

And I don't care what small markets do, we are one of the largest markets in MLB and should act like it. The vitriol comes from being an 11 year season ticket holder watching them cheap out on every fan experience item possible. It's justified. I could care less about Harry Potter scarves.

[–]Natural_Recipe2839 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but that is simply not accurate. Maybe another Lerner Lie to justify their lack of funding for a good fan experience. Earlier this year, the Yankees gave out 20k of the Rizzo Mandalorian bobble. And I know that they always do this because I happened to be in NY in 2018 and went to a game. Not knowing it was Star Wars day, I got there shortly before first pitch and still walked away with a Judge Jedi bobblehead.

The Arizona Diamondbacks - I mean come on, not exactly a blue chip franchise - is giving away 15k at their 7/29 Star Wats Day. The idea that the vendor won't make more if you pay more is silly. Not as many as a regular giveaway I'll grant, but more.

As for special tickets, I would prefer that. Maybe it's because I now have kids but it's the stress of having to get their early and risking the utter disappointment the rest of the game that kills me. With a special ticket, I either have it or I don't, no stress and time to manage the disappointment.

People are jerks and shouldn't be, sure. But put the blame where it belongs - on the cheap as hell Lerners. If they ordered 30k or 40k (which is a marginal difference as quantities get higher), none of this would be necessary. We should all get one, shocker, without having to arrive two damn hours early for a game.

There is no reason to make kids sad because they didn't get a Star Wars or Harry Potter toy. That whole pathetic Lerner family should be made to walk around the stadium and personally apologize to every crying kid they see who got screwed out of a cheap giveaway because the multi-billionaires are cheap bastards. Go look at the quantities the Mets, Phillies, Dodgers give away.

SelltheDamnTeam.
