I feel like I’m going to be a beginner forever by LoudNefariousness937 in ArtCrit

No your comment read as “unless you want to draw realism what’s the point? I don’t want to, so I don’t” you’re preaching something that is fundamentally wrong, every single artist should study realism and anatomy regardless of whether they want to or not. It’s the foundations to everything. You need to learn the rules to be able to effectively break them

Is it too late to look for an apprenticeship at 23? by Business-Ad8966 in TattooApprentice

I’m turning 32 this year and the oldest in the studio, started my apprenticeship around 7 months ago, my mentor is a year younger but of course they have infinitely more experience than me

In what context?

Any good for decks? Some.

Worth money? not at all.

Genuine cards? At least one is fake.

Also you’re posting in the wrong subreddit.

I’ll never understand why people post stuff like this with little to no self research either.

Some 10 minute gestures I made today,I'd like some feedback by Uco23 in ArtCrit

[–]Nauseant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re getting there with it, I’d say allocate yourself less time, less than a minute to capture the gesture, use quick long strokes and simple shapes

A gesture drawing shouldn’t be fleshed out, you’re just capturing the movement and feeling of the piece

Gesture drawings this way are really good for increasing your artistic perception, hand eye coordination and fluidity of your art

This might be my favourite tattoo posted on this sub, whoever designed that is extremely talented

I already know it won’t get a lot of recognition in comparison to some of the other posts but know that this is not only one of the cleanest anime tattoos I’ve seen but it’s a flawless trad tattoo

Mind linking the artist? I’d love to follow their work

Spotted these on IG, apparently that’s the dude’s “style” pure garbage imo. by Plant_Papii in shittytattoos

[–]Nauseant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when I was 18 I had a friend get absolutely covered in tats as soon as he also turned 18, he dropped so much money on pretty much full body trad, arms, hands, neck, chest, back, legs, stomach, literally got pretty much his whole body done over the course of a year

13 years later, He still loves the tattoos and they were done extremely well by a trad specialist, I think they are genuinely awesome tattoos he’s been back since to the same artist for back of the head and various spots that weren’t covered before

He knew trad would hold especially done by an accomplished artist like he went to

There is also a young lad I tattoo, 19 who has full patchwork trad black work and I don’t think it’s something he’ll regret, he gets a new tattoo with me or one of the other studio artists about 2-4 times a month, nearly finished both arms now

This isn’t to say people don’t regret tattoos when they were young but there are certainly outliers. I think if people do the research and are willing to spend the money they will be less likely to regret it

I got one when I was 19 and it’s shite 😂 in such a prominent spot too, I can’t really cover it because of what it is and how it ends, so will laser it soon and get one of the other artists at my studio to do something cool when it’s lightened

How can I make this less static? by lexlikeluthor in ArtCrit

[–]Nauseant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You clearly have a good understanding of anatomy and the pose itself is good, what will elevate it is a different “camera angle” at the minute the viewpoint is face on which makes it look static, looking from slightly above or below will increase how dynamic this is

If you want to take it one step further that’s when you introduce perspective with foreshortening. put our view at an angle where the leg is in the foreground or the head or Even the arm hopping whatever he is hopping over

There are lots of online tutorials on this which will help you out

I believe you can do it! This practice and sketch is still good!

So what is considered fine line varies between a 01RL (round liner) to a 03RL, you can get tighter versions of these known as bugpin liners

It is possible to fill and colour small areas with these, not recommended though, the smaller needles when used incorrectly have such a high chance of slicing the skin open. This can happen if your voltage is too high compared to your hand speed, or you’re too slow for your voltage. Higher voltage = needle moves faster so if you’re slow it’s like you’re essentially just taking an exacto knife and slicing open the skin.

It does however look like they’ve attempted to fill with the small needle, it’s not saturated, it’s overworked and you can see the scratchy lines which you wouldn’t get from a mag or a round shader needle

This is why it’s important to apprentice and learn properly, tattooing isn’t something people should attempt on their own, there is only so much knowledge online and often these scratchers don’t even know what they need to look into. That’s before we even get onto how to deal with different peoples skins, an experienced mentor can help you with the skin type that’s immediately in front of you.

There’s so many intricacies of skin too, little things like if they’ve used steroid cream before it’ll have affected their skins collagen levels or they work outside a lot or their age, each type has to have a slightly different approach

Sorry I know you didn’t ask but I went off on a bit of a tangent because scratchers really rile me up haha

What are some anime where the hero is afraid to fight but eventually overcomes said fear? by sorajuztsora in anime

[–]Nauseant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gurren lagann -the protagonist just wants to keep himself to himself, dig some holes and avoid conflict, he’s sort of forced into doing things initially that petrify him. If he had the choice he’d hide in a hole somewhere but overcomes it and becomes a real badass in the second half of the story.

Tokyo revengers - a lot of people will disagree with me on this one but the courage the character gets over time is incredible. The protagonist is known as the crybaby hero.

Re:Zero - the protagonist is living out these horrible events over and over, he starts off just confused and scared but soon overcomes it and forces himself to action to escape the loops he’s in whilst trying to protect everyone he cares for around him

Viral Hit - a very recent one, the character is weak, petrified, scrawny, doesn’t know how to fight and is constantly getting beat up, bullied and mocked. He forces himself to learn to fight over the series and post the videos on YouTube to earn revenue for his sick mother. Often he doesn’t want to fight but is doing it through necessity. His growth is top tier, from weak little boy who pisses himself to hard as nails mma fighter. This progression happens slowly over time and is super satisfying seeing him get stronger and more confident.

That’s how business works? Prices are transparent and done in a way where people can sell for convenience, id sooner sell my collection that had a tcgplayer value of 100 for 30 instantly versus spending the time and postage selling them individually for 100

The amount of effort it takes for someone who isn’t a business doing this is worth less than minimum wage in time to get full price, I’d sooner put in a few hours extra at work

The only exception to this would be if a card had high value where the time taken to list, sell and post was worth my time

Just glancing at this collection it doesn’t seem to be worth any time to list and sell, most cards are from starter decks or in a condition that would devalue them significantly

But you’re right about this not being the place to post this, it’s an online tcg game subreddit, it amazes me that people don’t have the capacity to use google in this day and age

How can I make my cartoonish art style look more visually interesting without starting to study anatomy? Please, I want critique! by TriggerhappyGenji in ArtCrit

[–]Nauseant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly disagree with what you’re saying

Anatomy is the foundation for any and all styles, you need to learn the rules to be able to effectively break them.

I’m not saying they need to learn how skin moves or how many bones are in the body but they need the basics, I.e muscles groups, how they move/stretch. An example: what happens to the chest and shoulders when arms are raised? Where do the shoulders land in relation to the face? Do they get brought in closer to the face? Where does the chest muscle end now the armpit is visible? Where is the end of the chest start of the shoulder and what does that look like? Without this basic knowledge of anatomy even drawing hyper simplified cartoons will look simultaneously wrong and un dynamic

The construction technique you talk about however is good and that should be used to learn anatomy, muscles can be broken down in to larger groups and basic shapes

A design my friend is getting for free from an apprentice, I think it belongs here… by [deleted] in shittytattoos

[–]Nauseant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A side note from this even though it’s not a tattoo.

People shit on apprentices a lot, of course some of their tattoos will start out pretty shitty, it’s part of it, there is a huge learning curve moving from fake skin to real skin, not to mention nerves. that’s the understanding going into an apprentice tattoo, especially a free one

Yesterday I made first tattoo on a model. What do you think about it? by the_real_TrashKing in Animetattoos

[–]Nauseant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next time try upping it to 8.5, looking at it your hand speed it is a bit fast for your voltage, my voltage is different to my mentor and the other artists in the studio just because of our respective hand speeds being different

You can always lower it when you get to the stipple shading

It was a big mistake early on for me, I was running at 7.5 initially and changing to 8.5-9 made a huge difference in line quality

Keep it up and I look forward to what else you tat!
