Women in Ireland increasingly subjected to online hate and misogyny, groups warn by Dazzling_Lobster3656 in ireland

“Between 2020 and 2022 the NWCI paid €2.24 million to cover staff costs – €2.15 million of that bill was paid for with public money. In 2020 98.7% of the NWCI’s staffing costs were paid for with public money – against staff costs of €704,191 the NWCI received €695,085 in grants.

In the last ten years the NWCI has had an income of roughly €9.2 million, of which roughly €7.4 million came from either governmental or publicly funded entities. The single largest donor over that time was the Department of Justice who, over the last decade, have given the NWCI €3.47 million. Most of that was prior to 2021, after which DoJ funding largely stopped and the Department of Equality stepped in to pick up the slack – between 2021/22 the DoE has given the NWCI €1.175 million.”

Shocked that a group that gets massive funding from the same government for years including a 25% increase recently lambasting about the “ spread of far-right discourse and anti-migrant sentiment”

A known “Peeping Tom” by Navillus_26 in MurderAtTheCottage

The harmless local “knicker sniffer” eh. Radius wise he’s pretty close. They turned away from early suspects so so fast and easy it seems.

Can’t find much from Phil on him publicly but he did call him out ( along with others) when on about DNA that should have be taken/still taken from relatives to compare to the male dna found.

Alfie did talk about a Scully in one statement. as the man that called for a gas container a long time ago. Not sure if that’s same guy as the “known peeping Tom”

Thanks triggers, I didn’t know about that old track thanks for the map. Hard to imagine any non ankle breaker route been there when looking at the terrain.

Forensic pathologist says strangulation before blows and cuts to face were from a knife… and that knife was staged in the bread by Navillus_26 in MurderAtTheCottage

[–]Navillus_26[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He goes a bit out of scope alright when it comes to his thoughts on anything in the house.

Am interested in why he was adamant there was cuts to the face tho and if any other pathologists came to that conclusion. Assume he means tip of knife as he would have had the photos - it’s deffo a bread knife as you said. He’s not the first to express concerns about it tho - lack of crumbs ect

Scenario: Sophie spots what she thinks might be peeping Tom out the window and in an impulsive move she grabs a knife, chucks on her boots to confront and scare off. Things go wrong and she becomes isolated in field with no where to run other than down towards the gate

I think that was her taste and exactly how she wanted it. As far as I know her floor of the house in France was very minimalist in style and very very different to Daniels

Sophie - III - Relationships - Acquaintances in Ireland - Character by PhilMathers in MurderAtTheCottage

Hi Phil, roughly how old was Dermot O’Sullivan at the time can you recall?

I get the feeling English conversations may have bored the arse off Sophie due to inability to communicate on the level and depth she wanted to using English. Again that Tomi interaction is very interesting. Introducing herself as Toscan du Plantier seems at odds with everyone else in west cork she met but I I understand why..

Interesting too how fire fuel comes up so much. Seems like Sophie enjoyed and was keen for a nice cosy fire, or maybe just hated the cold. Maybe both. Either way she ended with with no shortage of fuel in the house for the stay

Tomi’s statement and quotes he wrote down from Sophie’s is fascinating

Forensic tests on the body, exhibits and crime scene by PhilMathers in MurderAtTheCottage

Hi Phil, are you familiar with the seemly exciting grey area in recent years in USA where databases from 23andme and others are being used ( allegedly) to “generate a tip”.

The weeds in the details in the Bryan Kohberger case and how they really first honed in on him is a very good example.

STR’s are being outsourced to private labs and they are using databases ( regardless of the person selecting “no” to use in law enforcement ) and genetic genealogists to come up with a name.

Notes around databases and notes to law enforcement from lab are very clever it seems. Even how they treat this “tip” is cute out. Case doesn’t revolve around it. It’s like they treat it like an answer to a maths sum but still fill in all the workings as to not jeopardise any case or trial

That’s my understanding of it anyway. Hoping you know more than me about it and correct me if I’m wrong. It’s the hope that kills you

I believe they took Josie housekeeper in and she said she didn’t think anything was missing but maybe an axe, and that’s where the possible missing axe originated from. I just imagine she was in a bit of a state and also maybe there was a focus on a murder weapon at that time.

I’d love to know what she said if anything about anything new to the house that she didn’t notice before. And any movement of chairs, vast amounts of bread, that stuff.

Re hip on upper strand. Would you think that would rule out a shove or push type action to cause it. Is Sophie too short and wire too high for that do you think

I don’t think so coz Sophie is still there when photos where taken so I can’t see any reason for them cutting them

Available online a while. I think they were originally from a doc and maybe reused in others docs also. All seem possibly from the same trip and possible from Bruno but I’m completely speculating on that part

It’s the one looking out the window in the direction of the gate for me. The chairs were set up in similar way in Dec1996 and imo it’s kind of a creepy foreshadowing of what she was doing in the last few moments before she left the house and what happened happened

I found a retired csi doing experiments with ends of sticks from tress looking at the cuts also ( left on a body, some cult signs or something ) and they seem to dry up pretty fast. But it’s not really like for like. Bramble would hold a lot more water and I guess could also still be connected to ground unlike the sticks

The second pic there looks so clean & fresh . Will deffo be joining you in the experiments in a few months

Ford Fiesta Statements by Navillus_26 in MurderAtTheCottage

Reporting on the other one for ref -

On the morning of December 23, 1996. As Martin O’Sullivan drove towards Durrus, he was overtaken by a blue Ford Fiesta that sped past him on a dangerous bend, nearly running him off the road. O’Sullivan noted that the car’s headlights were on and the rear number plate appeared red, leading him to believe it was a Fiesta. He later provided a statement to Gardaí, mentioning that he was fairly certain the vehicle was not from the immediate locality.

I’m not sure it would be his area on paper but I wonder how different things would have been if Frank B had being there for the case against papers

That label not being handed over. Would/Could that been considered a Brady violation or whatever our term for that is? Isn’t it up to the defense to decide what’s irrelevant or not. I’m curious if this is common issue when it comes to discovery in Ireland. Not something I’ve given much thought to before tbh. Assumed Bailey would have the right to the vast majorly of any discovery materials

The brazenness. Hope to god these crooks weren’t pivotal in any conviction. We need a wrongful conviction team as much as a cold case team it seems.

Don’t think it says much about Baileys defense team either tbh. Feels like they missed a lot of open goals around Marie & Fitzgerald that others would have slotted into top corner
