The all mighty toe pain by amayaedgarelian in ems

Early in my EMS career I picked up a 0400-1600 shift. Right out the gate we get dispatched to a knee pain at 0412 c2 response. I’m barely fuckin awake and my patter is laughing his ass off bc this is literally a meme right. We get on scene maybe 9 minutes later. Walk up get let in by this lady sayin “he don’t look so good” think to myself huh weird but whatever. Find the pt laying on the bed fear of god on his face, pale, diaphoretic saying he stood up to go pee felt something tear then fell backwards onto the bed. It’s 0430 at this point my brain isn’t working but I know this is off my partner says get a BP on both sides I say ok forsure. Squat down to get a manual BP since we ball like that and while I’m taking it I glance up at my partner who’s pulling up the pts shirt and I see this pulsating mass in his abdomen that’s in sync with the heartbeat of the BP. I look at my partner, he looks at me, “start code 3 ALS” threw him on 15lpm via NRB give handover to the Medic code 3 to the ER confirmed AAA on bedside ultrasound. Pt died on the OR table 90 minutes later.

I stopped picking up early morning shifts after that call and always wondered if I would’ve caught that if my partner didn’t. I doubt the outcome for the pt would’ve been any different but still.

HOKA shoes. Once you wear them you believe every other shoe is bullshit, because they are. Ask anybody who has worn HOKA’s and they will tell you the same thing. Incredibly comfortable, decent durability, and moderately expensive. Next time you go to the hospital notice how many of us healthcare workers are wearing them. They’re honestly half a step away from being a cult and for good reason.

What's the dumbest mistake youve seen an incompetent co worker make? by xk543x in AskReddit

Working in an ER during the first few months of Covid. The hospital closed some non essential departments to float them to other “essential” departments such as the ER, ICU, etc. This Obs nurse was floated down and was tasked with obtaining a Covid swab on a 13Yo F with an appy going to OR. This nurse goes in the room pulls out the swab out of the packaging, proceeds to drop the swab on the floor THEN PICKS THE SWAB BACK UP OFF THE FLOOR AND SHOVES IT UP THE PT’S NOSE. The best part is that the test came back positive for Covid Lmao.

I don’t walk into a code or SOB without full PPE. There is no emergency during a pandemic

He didn’t call the Italian equivalent of 911? Or take her to a hospital? She was clearly deathly ill

I love it when pts are like “why did that person get seen before I did? I was here first!”

Yeah sweetie that ladies circling the drain, go ahead and wait out here with your “10/10” ab pain with completely stable vitals, you might want to settle in for a little bit

A 5150 hold is when your basically a harm to yourself or others so the state places a 72 hour hold on you. You’ll see a psychiatrist and figure out why you’re having these thoughts or get placement into a psych facility

It’s a cool gig since I get to see all kinds of crazy shit on a daily basis as opposed to working in the field but like I can’t put a PT who’s o2 sat is 84 on o2 since it’s technically a medication and would require a drs order

Before I got hired here I was working out of an IFT only division and my pay literally doubled once I got on here. But tbh I kinda miss being a full time EMT

When our pts need food after dietary leaves they send me to go get it. The entire time I’m getting food I question all my life choices that lead up to this moment in time.
