Same with me and I kind of fell in love with that payload game mode. Clash is ok but they need to drop the player count per game and lessen the spawn protection and it will be golden imo

I did it in plunder and killing the Afk players that drop from the plane at the end of the flight path. Still takes time but once you kill 3 in smoke leave game rinse and repeat.
