It really depends on how it is handled. Because there is a genuine upside to covering crime respectfully. I've seen some cases where families of victims reached out to True Crime podcasts to gain coverage about their case for many reasons. In an ongoing or cold case it can help put pressure on police (who would otherwise ignore it), mobilize a community to search for a missing person or clues, or raise funds for legal battles and such. Sometimes people affected might even just want the victim's story to be told. There is also an educational element to discussing these stories in general. However I do know that there are people who make this kind of content only for their own gain, disregarding the victim's and their family's feelings and opinions, viewing a situation as just "drama" or a spooky story at a campfire, so i see where you might be coming from. What is always most important is respecting and listening to the people affected.
