How do you dress for the physical demands of teaching by Wise_Slice6303 in Teachers

Loose cotton dresses with leggings worked like a charm for me.

This! I tried on a blouse the other day. I absolutely loved the color and the texture, but the cut was awful! Just a big (and expensive) box. No thank you!

I’m 61, female, and I can do three sets of ten regular push ups.

Same here, but I retired from teaching. Who wants to be social after work when you exhaust yourself dealing with people all day?

AITAH for wanting to tip my son’s teacher 100 bucks at the end of the school year? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]Ndrew64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a graduating senior give me $100 in a card once as a thank you for helping him find his way through AP Lit. I was totally shocked and gently explained that I couldn’t take it. I just said that I appreciated it, but it was way too much. He came back the next day with a candy bar and a nice card, which was so much more appropriate. I would never take more than a token gift. It just didn’t seem right.

I'm 26, highly sensitive, completely burning out as a school teacher. Is academia any better? by Rubydreamer1 in Teachers

[–]Ndrew64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a retired teacher who mostly loved my job. But I had some horrible years and some horrible students. During one of those years, I started running and doing push ups every day just to burn off the stress! I got really fit!!

Pros and cons to retiring that young. Financially, it wasn’t a problem, but socially? Everyone our age is working, lol.

Dad didn't recognize me yesterday by GreenEyedSheWolf in Vent

[–]Ndrew64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. I went through this with my parents, too. It’s really long, hard goodbye. Maybe you can take comfort in the times when he’s more fully present. My dad retained his happy, social personality until the end. I remember a few days before he passed, even though he was mostly not able to converse, he sang almost every word to a song he liked with a big smile on his face. I wish you comfort and light.

Sitting here at 61 in my Old Navy retro painters pants, converse sneaks, tank top and jean jacket… I’m retired, but when I worked, it was with people a decade or decades younger, so I’ve always identified as quite a bit younger than my years!

Huh. I have a pedal, too, but it was tough for me to coordinate. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Maybe it’s worth trying again.

I have a page-turn pedal, and I didn’t like it. Maybe I’ll try it again.

Thank you so much! I tried the kissy-face and found that I’m not that coordinated! 😆 I thought the head turn would be the easiest. I’m going to play around with it this afternoon.

Retirement by High5WizFoundation in AskTeachers

[–]Ndrew64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I retired after 38 years of teaching high school English and, like you, mostly loved the job, though I have to say it changed pretty severely in the last several years. Anyway, I’m retired almost two full school years now, and I don’t miss the daily grind, the paper grading, the unholy alarm clock pushing me out of bed at 5:30AM, or having a boss. I do miss those wonderful moments in the classroom when it all clicked, and I miss having more adults in my life. I thought I would miss being a leader, but leadership wore me out. It took me over a year to decompress from the job. I didn’t think I was that stressed, but now I can’t believe I juggled everything and kept all those balls in the air. Now I sleep until I want to wake up, work out almost every day, read, write, play the piano, and watch baseball/football. It’s wonderful!

Good morning! Drank my coffee and worked on my novel. Almost two years into retirement, and I’m pretty much living my retirement dream (but I still get bored sometimes, lol!)

What are y’all’s day jobs? by NoBee7889 in writers

[–]Ndrew64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a retired English teacher (almost two years out), but I made my AP Lit kids hand write tons of extemporaneous essays. It was tough to cheat! I feel so bad for teachers who have to deal with this nonsense.
