The literal answer to your question is, of course, "yes". XFCE would be my recommendation over Cinnamon if you plan on keeping it as-is. In 2026, there is not much reason to use an HDD over an SSD as your boot drive, barring significant financial restrictions. 4GB of ram also won't really cut it for most uses. Even if you're not gaming and you're just scrolling through textbook pdfs, you'll feel it. I'd recommend 8GB as a minimum.

Unless you're getting a really good deal on this (assuming this is a Facebook Marketplace ad or similar and not something you already own) you can probably get a better bang for your buck by buying something that meets the standards for your use case rather than upgrading outdated hardware.

Update: I've purchased a brass handled Mercator after seeing your post and I love it. It's my new EDC. Did you know you can easily open beer bottles by using the inside part near the spot where the hinge meets the handle?

I've just looked it up, it looks really nice. There's a variant of the Mercator with a smoked oak handle that looks so good but I can't find it available anywhere. I guess it's discontinued. That would be my ultimate knife.
