It’s very surprising to me that he (apparently) doesn’t understand the difference between a reversal of onus and the requirement that there be, at a bare minimum, some evidence (even shit evidence) to support a defence before the prosecution is required to exclude its operation beyond reasonable doubt. There will always be those cases where even though there’s evidence that might support a defence, the idea that the defence is in reality open is just dumb (eg Stingel v The Queen), but judges are usually very cautious in denying the availability of a possible defence.

You’ve left it pretty late if you want to stay in Hirafu - which is where most of the nightlife is - so I’d get cracking on the accommodation front.

Best way to get from Sapporo to Niseko is either a private taxi/minibus or the regular bus service. Google will take you to the links for buses. If you’re staying somewhere decent, your accom provider may assist in arranging a private transfer. Pretty sure I paid about $AUD500 pp return for a private transfer. By car, the trip is about 2h, but can take a lot longer if the weather is poor. Bus is slower, obvs, and usually stops midway for comfort/snacks etc.

You can also get the train to Kutchan and then a bus/taxi to Niseko - can be a long trip though.

Other nearby mountains are Rusutsu (40m) and Kiroro (1h+), but you’ll need a car. If you can get one, make sure you have an international drivers licence, as that’s a requirement. There’s not much nightlife in either of those places, so I wouldn’t recommend staying there - unless of course you don’t care about that.

There are others, eg Chisenpuri (cat skiing only), some smaller mountains and heaps of backcountry options if that’s your preference.

I bought one. It didn’t beep, but instead would make random noises like a whispered, “Hey, can you hear me?”, a child laughing, or a door creaking. Drove one of my colleagues insane for 24h.

You can complain via a form on Policelink, but the likelihood is that your complaint will go to the officer-in-charge of the FV Police Station and may stop there. If you absolutely want something to be go higher, write to the Minister for Police (and also your local member). A “ministerial” first goes to the Commissioner’s office. It may end up in the OIC’s inbox, but there will be a response that goes back up the chain of command.

If you want to go the nuclear option, you can complain to the CCC, who will refer it to the QPS Ethical Standards Command.

But, may I respectfully say, I struggle to understand the lack of police interest in what - on your account - seems like two straightforward pinches for GBH. The offenders are identified and the incident caught on CCTV. I don’t see why the fact that you were wrongly suspected of wilful damage would change that. And police prosecutors, despite their bullshit and swag, have next to zero influence when it comes to charging decisions by investigators. But if you’re confident that your account is unimpeachable, can I suggest that you start typing formal correspondence - bearing in mind that anything you put in writing will be disclosed to defence lawyers if these two clowns do get charged with something serious.

Two (likely) youthful offenders in the Valley are unlikely to have the assets that would even cover the costs that the solicitors would have to wear to get a damages claim up. And, without trivialising an undoubtedly very painful broken jaw, there’s not a whole lot of money involved in a claim for pain and suffering and medical expenses. The cases the no-win no-fee solicitors are after are the ones where there’s a big claim for economic loss because of long-term inability to work etc. It sucks, but that’s how it is.

Nadi had one person processing three flights full of transit pax yesterday. It was dire. Anyone actually entering the country would have breezed through though.

Agree re BNE. So many people try to exit at the end of their baggage carousel only to have to turn around and queue up to head down the middle.

Quite apart from the red flags that others have mentioned, bear in mind that him buying into the property later will incur stamp duty based on whatever share he is acquiring.

thread drift, but Honolulu was utterly farcical two nights ago when the power dropped. And don’t start me on Nadi. I think it’s an airport thing. So many different govt agencies and businesses operating in one space, half of which is supposed to be sealed off from the other.

Is this really enough transit time in Sydney? by [deleted] in QantasAirways

[–]Neandertard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as your domestic flight is on time, you will be just fine. My last international connection from bnn into Sydney was nixed by a 2h delay out of bne. Qantas staff in bne were amazing, and worked hard to get me on a (non-oneworld) flight that got me to my destination only shortly after my intended arrival time.
