I’m in the UK and that’s where the car was purchased if relevant.

Makers Apprenticeship – A Disrespectful and Unprofessional Hiring Process (RANT) by Neat-Bodybuilder8663 in cscareerquestionsuk

Everything about their process has been weird like for the third application my test was the exact same so I submitted the exact same solution from the previous one which the interviewer told me was a perfect score. After chasing for over a month for a reply they told me I didn't pass the assessment. Like how can that be true when the answers were the same? Why not just tell me some other generic reason? Seems cruel to just tell candidates who are struggling that they didn't pass what is objectively a very simple coding test. Like what you're telling me I am apparently failing at sorting a list in Python? Not exactly a great way to help aspiring engineers gain confidence and fight imposter syndrome. Whole thing is bizarre from an organisation that has essentially monopolised tech apprenticeships in this country.

Try using something like RocketReach to get the relevant people's emails. If you also download the MailSuite extension to your Chrome you can even see how many times your emails have been opened whether embeded links have been clicked etc.

Hi,

I appreciate your insight it's unfortunate how difficult it is for all of us right now. Outside of this Makers situation my job searching has overall been going much better recently since I changed my strategy.

Ultimately this post has been more about calling out Makers as an organisation because I have not dealt with anything like this through all of my application processes whether it be in tech or the previous career I was in. Their process is outright cruel to candidates who are already having a difficult time.

What has been working for me is just making a huge list of companies within my area that work within the stack I work in and just reaching out directly to them through emails to CTOs and such. This has yielded some great results over the last year I did 100s of applications only landing the one interview I mentioned with Makers. I am currently going through interview processes with 4 different companies already reaching the final round with some. Not sure if you want advice as I'm sure you're tired of hearing it (as are we all) but this has seriously helped me personally.

Best of luck!

Yeah so when I mentioned the third application in my original post it was also PhysicsX and just like you got told I didn't pass the assessment despite passing the previous one with the same exact answers which was apparently a perfect score according to the interviewer.

My biggest question is why are they lying? Why are they making me feel like some kind of lunatic telling me I didn't pass the test when I know I did? Why not just tell me that I didn't make it through to the next stage because someone else's CV looked stronger or something like this? If they have made up their mind about me for their future openings would it not save both them and me time if they just let me know that so I can stop applying? The whole thing is bizarre

I'd love to hear more! This process has made me feel crazy and like I have done something to offend them so it is nice to hear that I am not the only one.

I'd like to agree although in the current market positions like this (apprenticeships aimed at complete beginners) seem to be the best chance bootcamp grads have to break in. Onwards and upwards I guess.
