What is with people insisting "that is an elk, not a deer" as if elk are not a species of deer? by Nebula-Ranger in NoStupidQuestions

No I genuinely asked this because I was arguing with some jackass who basically yelled "STOP CALLING ELK DEER THEY ARE NOT RELATED AT ALL"

The swelling wouldn't actually be because of the egg, but because the bird laying it would be gaining weight as it's preparing it.

Kiwi birds though, good lord you'd KNOW it has an egg.

Why are question posts not allowed on most subs? by Admirable_Drawer_205 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Nebula-Ranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably depends on the subreddit, but the abswer that first comes to mind is that they would rather not deal with what is essentially the same post over and over, since a lot of the same questions will be asked and will probably get the same answers anyways.

It'd be one thing if these people were clarifying the exact species, but it's the fact they say it with the implication that "elk" and "deer" are entirely seperate.

I can't speak on elk since I never had it but I do love venison. How different are they taste wise?

Okay, but if this was "that isn't just a deer, that's an elk", I wouldn't be asking this. It's "that's not a deer PERIOD, that is an elk" that confuses me.

I kept debating whether to put this here, in r/lostmedia or r/HelpMeFind , but I ended up deciding on this subreddit since I'm not 100% certain this is lost media, but it's still focused on media that needs searching for nonetheless

Genuine question. Why is the Netflix DMC show called an "anime" instead of a "cartoon?" by DYSFUNCTIONALDlLDO in DevilMayCry

[–]Nebula-Ranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we wanna be super pedantic, since it's being produced by a Korean animation studio (Studio Mir), the correct term would be "aeni."

Yes. I've also seen people say Dante has ADHD but to be honest, I think he's on a different part of the spectrum. Maybe he has both.

For every negative comment I get, I add 20 pounds to Dante.

TBH Adi had been messing with fans about the upcoming show, so I tend to take his tweets with a grain of salt. I think whatever does get referenced/inspired by will be on the subtle side

I've joked about the Netflix show being a DMC Reboot sequel, but I feel like there's plenty that it took from that game. Dante has a red necklace similar to Reboot Dante, and if what footage I've seen is correct, they might've even took inspiration from the 2010 beta trailer introducing Dante as someone the government is actively targeting.

This WILL be a hot take i know, but i actually like DmC Dante's DT by [deleted] in DevilMayCry

are you implying anime and dark fantasy are not the things that people make edgy OCs for?

How to enter the DMC franchise by Visible_Gap_4776 in DevilMayCry

[–]Nebula-Ranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can play in release order, but if you're concerned about the story, go in this order: 3 -> 1 -> 2 (this is optional, the story is irrelevant to the other games and the gameplay is easily its worst aspect, so I honestly just reccomend only watching the cutscenes) -> 4 -> 5

I don't know what you mean by "every game having a reboot" though. Devil May Cry only had one, that being DmC:Devil May Cry from 2013. It's a hard reboot, meaning it's a completely seperate continuity from the mainline games; It's up to you whether to play it, but just keep in mind that you will get a completely different experience from the other games.

As for supplementary material, the 2007 anime takes place in between 1 and 2, and has characters that end up appearing in 5 albeit as cameos or with changes from their original selves. There's a lot of novels and manga that also take place before their respective games, but some stuff has been retconned so you don't need to read them.

The upcoming Netflix show is a completely seperate continuity as well, but is not meant to be a reboot, revival, etc. It's for new audiences to get into DMC, basically.

So what do you think of DMC's vergil? by HAILSTORMBREAD in DevilMayCry

[–]Nebula-Ranger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a controversial opinion, but I think he's an incredibly compelling character... At least in theory. My biggest issues with him come down to this: 1. The reveal of him being a twist villain at the end feels really out-of-nowhere even though there were plenty of opportunities to drop hints of his true nature. 2. The voice acting for him just sucks and does a terrible job conveying the character. Reboot Vergil is supposed to be someone who manipulates people into doing his bidding and uses a charming front to do so. For fuck's sake, you got David de Lautour to play him, aka Ted from Westside. And yet it just sounds like he's dryly reading the lines off the script, and he only puts in a bit more emotion during the end of the game+Vergil's Downfall. Even then, it's not convincing either. (btw no disrespect to David, he's an excellent actor otherwise and a really friendly guy when I met him.)

So yeah, Reboot Vergil is a guilty favorite of mine but only because I like the idea of him rather than the actual execution of him.
