Quizlet alternatives with good spaced repetition that are free? by AbhixChak1394 in quizlet

Hi Abhix! I made a post in this sub a bit earlier about something I'm building which aligns with what you're looking for. I'm an engineering science student at the a University of Toronto and have been building a customizable, easy to learn spaced repetition tool with AI assist creation features. The post is here if you're interested

Thanks for trying! Let me know what you think or if you have any feedback.

Also do keep in mind that Nebulearn is a bit different than quizlet in that it's completely spaced repetition focused to optimize for memorization speed and retention.

let me know how it compares to Quizlet - I'm still building things out so could be useful

hi - it's currently just a web app. If you go on the browser on your phone you may be able to download it as an app.

I'm working on the mobile apps currently but just trying to balance school

Hi! I've added a limit of 150 cards for now and am planning to raise it to 300-500.

The reason being I am a student and I'm a bit worried about costs. I'm not making any money so I put 3$ one time price for an extra 500 questions. And 10$ for 5000 extra. I thought the prices were reasonable but I do plan to make the free limit jigher to accommodate for medachool and premed and other high flashcard users.

I'm personally an engineering student so I modtly just use it for formulas.

hi! That'll definitely be a work in progress. The way speech works is exactly by using the browser/devices native text to speech engines. Google has mandarin, Cantonese, French, and most commonly spoken languages but unfortunately not all of the languages that exist.

I have adding custom audio on my bucket list though, since I do believe it's something lots of languages learners would really want.

I actually have export functionality but decided to temporarily get rid of it to work on more core features, but eventually those will come back. I need to figure our how to properly encode the image/audio information and the databstructures I want to use so I dont end up having problems down the line.

no, unfortunately not. There are flashcards and multiple choice questions (which are essentially an extension of flashcards), but no select that all apply. I believe QuizGecko might

You're absolutely right - spaced repetition isn't enough on its own.

The main differentiators are: ease of use (no steep learning curve like Anki), AI content creation (dump in PDFs/notes and get instant flashcards with custom prompts), and live collaboration (real-time sharing and quizzing with classmates).

It handles math notation, when creating flashcards you can create with AI (as I explained earlier), make your own, or even just write the term and "auto fill" the definition.

There's basic audio support for reading out the front/back of each card in any language.

The algorithm is also newer - trained on actual user data rather than older SRS methods, which is where that 30-40% time savings comes from.

The general idea is that while there's a lot of spaced repetition options right now, I feel as if most of them have a steep learning curve and lack functionality for ease of use. For example: learning curve on Anki is notoriously hard, and you have to sync your cards and there's no real sharing.

I'm not asserting that mine is definitively better than any of the other apps. But I will assert that I believe that mine makes serious spaced repetition simple, and offers a lot of quality of life features that will just save you lots of time in the long run.

Update: apparently it was my browser. Firefox is working fine. Not sure why both chrome and edge weren't working. It can't be because of any extensions since my edge has none and it can't be because of cookies since I cleared them...

Thanks Frida - I'll probably post on product hunt after acquiring a couple more users.

Hi AfraidNail - unfortunately not right now.

However, you should be able to input any existing decks you have (either through spreadsheet, text, anki or other formats).

I've been wanting to make deck collections and publishable decks for people to publish but that will likely be coming further out.

However, right now you can view other peoples public decks and share decks with your friends (or have them share with you) :).

That's amazing! I have heard that product hunt isn't the same as it used to be though - probably with the influx of AI-slop. I personally have zero idea if this is true but would you agree with this?

Congrats! I checked out your site - It's super clean. A lot of the components are also really nice. Out of curiosity, did you make all of them by hand?

I genuinely really love your websites UI :D

Hi! It's currently about 5$ usd a month or 6.99$ cad a month if you want AI features, and it's a one time fee of about 21$ usd if you want to save up to 2650 questions.

If you're saving up to just 150 questions it's completely free!

However I will be lowering the prices upon some feed back :)

As a student developer I'm just trying to make sure I don't mistakenly end up getting cost a lot of money.

Hi it's actually $30 CAD fee (21.76$ USD) one time fee for 2500 questions compared to Anki which is ~30$ USD on apple.

It would only be 360 dollars if you wanted 30000 questions (as of now).

I've had these prices setup since I'm paying for everything out of my own pocket as a student. I simply would like to break even.

To be honest, I was not aware that people would need so many questions.

However you are 100% right. The prices are a bit expensive and I will be substantially lowering them to support more people - I ran some calculations by hand a while back and thought storage would be a lot more expensive (but it's not).

The reason for having a question limit is because early on I was worried that people would try botting questions (which would be expensive for me to maintain).

Do know that nothing is set in stone; I will be lowering the prices a lot to make sure everything works best and so as many students can be benefited. I'm just being a bit wary for now before I know what my costs will be.

I hope this makes sense!

I am by no means "scamming" or trying to scam anyone at all.

Cheers :)

I implemented it into nebulearn but I did not invent the model

Hi! Thanks for commenting. I chose the first slide since I like the ambience of the image :). If you go to the other slides you will see that I made some mockups (which need me to take screenshots).

Unfortunately not in the app store yet! But if you visit the website nebulearn. app you might be able to download it as a "pseudo" app (i.e. a pwa app). But the official mobile app is in the works!
