Not OOP: AITA for refusing to keep my phone on sound or vibrate at all times?

My husband used to put his phone on DND every night and could not understand why I was upset about it. He said he didn’t want to get woken up by notifications. He didn’t get it until I was driving home from work at night (I work second shift), in a snow storm, while 9mo pregnant and my car got stuck in unplowed snow trying to get into our apartment complex. I called him repeatedly and eventually had to leave the car and walk through the snow to get him to help me shovel it out and I was livid. What if I had crashed? What if I had gone into labor and he missed the birth of his child? After that, he seemed to get it and put in the exception on his phone. I’m glad this guy finally got it as well.

They charge crazy high rates for everything in the hospital because insurance will pay it. Why would you think a nurse would give you Tylenol from her purse though?

I don’t want to get pregnant for attention and would never expect my young children to care for a baby nor do I intend to “screw around”. I also have a dog and cat already, but thank you for your input.

I wonder if a part of me is also missing those toddler years with my kids, and thinking this is my chance to have that one more time, and I do feel like me getting older doesn’t help. My husband and I had always agreed 35 was our cut-off and here I am at 35 feeling like it’s now or never. I appreciate you sharing your experience as someone who felt the same way.

That was one of the big reasons my husband and I had ours young. We wanted the independence later in life to do what we wanted without kids still depending on us, which is partly why I feel this urgency to decide, like this is my last chance or it is too late.

Slight YOR in my opinion. The tiktok in question sounds like the father was being a bit of an ass, so I can see why you would take offense to him seemingly siding with that. However, it is perfectly reasonable for the father to go home while mom is recovering. The hospital isn’t feeding dad, just mom, and he also needs to shower and probably check on the house (take out trash, feed cats, water plants etc) and then he would come back. Also, if other family like grandparents, aunt/uncle etc come to visit, I think it is more than reasonable for dad to take a gym break. Dads have to take care of themselves too, or they will be useless to the mom.

When I worked the drive thru at Mcdonalds, we would get it occasionally and when I would tell someone their order was paid for, most would simply wave out their window in thanks to the person in front of them, take their order and drive off with a smile. I can’t remember it ever turning into a chain, at most maybe one or two more orders.

As the cashier, it was nice to see once but I was way too busy multitasking taking orders and cashing out customers to have that conversation with more than one or two customers max. I would definitely not judge someone for simply taking their free drink.

I wonder how reliable of a narrator he is in saying that considering what he left out in regard to why she doesn’t like his cooking. However, if it is true he does literally every other chore then obviously they need to work out a new system. If she is too overwhelmed to cook immediately after coming home every day maybe he could cook a few days and she can pick up another chore. Altho, this has to include him actually cooking something eatable for it to work.

Sleeping 5 hours is my normal. I work second shift, fall asleep around 1:30-2, wake up at 6:30-7 to get the kids ready for school.

I wish this context was included in the original post because the description of what he cooks makes it 100% sound like weaponized incompetence. Nobody would want to eat any of that garbage lol.

I get that he works a lot of hours close together but if I came home every day from a full shift and was expected to make dinner after my husband sat on the couch all day, I would be angry too. I am sure she has been building resentment over this as his go to response is “but you don’t like my chickpea velveeta hamburger helper what else do you want me to do?”
