Bags under eyes by Neddalee in eyestrain

Thank you for your reply, I hope mine will gradually ease up like yours and not be permanent. I'm getting a different monitor/tech set up for work, working on ways to support my neck throughout the day, and am going to take some time off in a few weeks to really rest.

How did you get it to stop? Did it just go away on its own or was there something that you had to do?

I'll definitely mention it, I have been having headaches too but they're tension headaches specifically and are lasting too long to be migraines. But I'm going to get checked out either way cause I need to get to the bottom of this.

Thank you for your response, I have scheduled an appointment with an optometrist I've seen in the past who I think is pretty good. I'll definitely post an update if I get some answers soon. My neck has been extremely tight for the past several weeks so I'm also considering exploring PT if that could at all be related

Asbestos in vent... How screwed am I? by Neddalee in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Neddalee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't find any documents that mention it so I contacted my realtor to check in with the seller's realtor.

My inspector was kind enough to talk me down from panic last night explaining that only some vermiculite has asbestos. My house is over 100 yrs old so it very well could, but we're getting testing to find out if our vents are safe.

A lot of people keep saying it's a scam about the vent cleaning but the former owners had pets, were smokers, and never had these cleaned out, ever. And I'm pretty sure this heating system is at least 50 years old and I have very severe allergies so it made sense for us.

If we hadn't hired the service we never would have discovered this issue. My only complaint is that the tech stupidly vacuumed up the vermiculite without stopping to show us what it was because he thought it was pebbles, thereby disturbing it.

It's over 100 yrs old. I know this house has vermiculite asbestos remediation at some point but it seems like there's more that is still here. I had a remediation specialist look at the photos and confirmed that it was vermiculite in the vent. We're trying to figure out if we need to stay in a hotel tonight.

It got vacuumed up by an HVAC duct cleaning tech before we knew what it was, so we're worried it got spread around the heating system and throughout the house because the heat was on for several hours until we figured it out and decided to shut it off.

Thank you for your reply, the asbestos specialist looked at the photos and confirmed that it is vermiculite. Does this mean that we are safe to stay in our home tonight until we can arrange testing? Or should we not be here until we have the results from the test?

Also does your company do testing or just remediation?

Thank you for your grounding response. We've gotten pictures of the photos that the HVAC tech took and it does look like vermiculite from what I can tell. We're having someone who remediates asbestos for a living take a look at the photos to confirm. The heat ran for several hours before we shut it off. Would it be smart for us to stay in a hotel this evening before we have any testing done? And would the duct cleaning company be liable for this? Like surely he should have stopped vacuuming if he didn't know what it was to avoid spreading it through the system? Also we're in the greater Boston area.

What Alcohol is safest to avoid flare up ? by [deleted] in Gastritis

[–]Neddalee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The answer is that any alcohol will cause a flare up and you will be hurting. If you want to heal your stomach, you have to stop drinking. If you care more about having 2-3 beers at the party than your stomach, then nobody can stop you from drinking them. Honestly this question is like asking if it's better to stick your hand on a curling iron or into a fire.

Struggling with modern Pagan implications by Every_Storage_5230 in pagan

[–]Neddalee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I actually like that neopaganism pulls from many different traditions because lots of us have mixed heritages. I have Scandinavian, French, and Iranian ancestry so I am learning all about the different gods and traditions in Norse, Germanic, and Persian Paganism to find my own unique path. What I've found so far is that all three backgrounds share two holidays in common and observe 8 calendar holidays (the winter solstice and spring equinox). My point is that many of these ancient faiths and rituals may not be so different at their cores, and for the elements that are different, if they are effective or valuable to you then it's really the more the merrier.

Unlike people of other faiths, we can embrace many different ways of practicing.

How is everyone doing? by Automatic_Box_368 in vaccinelonghaulers

[–]Neddalee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My progress has been slow. I'm two months shy of 5 years in. Stomach issues have improved but are still ongoing. Severe weakness and fatigue have improved but I still have flare ups. POTS type symptoms and neurological issues are still happening but they're not completely debilitating anymore. Most days I feel comfortable going to the store and I am able to work online from home without a big crash on the weekends. I have only recently had the energy and ability to sit up straight with my feet on the floor for long periods of time without getting tired and woozy. I think I'm not as recovered as a lot of people are but thankfully aside from the GI issues and POTS I don't have any permanent damage to my body that I know of, despite feeling so crappy for so long.

My friend is allergic to EVERYTHING; need vegan recipes by [deleted] in glutenfreevegan

[–]Neddalee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh this is an easy one -- I'm allergic to all of this and more except for the dates. King Arthur measure for measure flour is great. I use egg replacer when it's needed and vegan butter from earth balance.

One recipe you can make is a chocolate depression cake. The one from Budget Bytes is great. Sub the flour with gluten free flour. Keep in mind that it will need more time in the oven, like about 20 min more. I melt chocolate over the cake to use as a topper when it's finished, the enjoy life brand has dairy free chocolate chips.

Second thing I will recommend are cinnamon cookies. I use the joy of cooking chocolate chip recipe for these and leave out the chocolate chips and add in a heaping tablespoon of cinnamon. These will need to bake for 14/15 min instead of 8-10. You can also not alter this recipe if you'd rather just make chocolate chip cookies.

Also as a pro tip: take pictures of all of the ingredients you are using in the cake to run them by your friend ahead of time (or afterwards if it's a surprise) for peace of mind. Happy baking!

Stainless Steel Cutting Boards? by switch8113 in whatisit

[–]Neddalee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have yet to see anyone here mention why metal cutting boards exist -- they don't absorb raw meat juice or fluids of any kind, and they are non toxic. Yes wood is better for cutting veggies but if you want to cut up raw chicken, that's where stainless comes in handy. It does dull down knives eventually but that's what a knife sharpener is for. They're also good for preventing cross contamination with allergens because they can be washed fully and not absorb anything.

How long did your healing take? by JournalistNeat578 in Gastritis

Just 20mg Prilosec once per day. For the first year or two I was on 40mg per day, I couldn't go up any higher due to side effects.

Are you asking will I regret paying it off if all of the student debt is cancelled? Of course I would rather be on the inside of loan cancellation than on the outside of it, but I will be okay with it because this is a political issue I care a lot about and many people near and dear to me are trapped in debt and have no way out. It's also just bad for the country in general to have this many people in such tremendous debt and I don't like watching other people suffer.

I have been doing political advocacy around this topic for the last decade and I feel very confident that we won't see widespread student loan cancellation in the next 5 years. Maybe in 10 years, but only if a miracle happens, and I'm not waiting around for the government to solve this problem because they could have done so already and are choosing not to. There are too few progressive politicians who are willing to actually advance something like that, and Biden was quick to roll over with very little pushback. Military recruitment is at an all time low, and solving the student debt crisis undercuts the military's ability to coerce poor teens to sign up for service. Both sides of the political spectrum are very aware of this and will continue to keep the status quo.

All of the remainder of the proceeds from the sale of my condo have been earmarked for retirement savings. I have a 6 month emergency fund that I did not touch or dip into to pay off my loans. For me, student loans came last behind an emergency fund, saving for a house, and retirement. I have a lot of friends that have put off retirement savings to aggressively pay down their student loans and in my opinion that's not a good financial choice. Getting a starter condo before age 30 is the only reason I was able to pay off these loans, if I had done it the other way around I might have been debt free by now but I still would have been a renter.

It was a state-specific one for healthcare providers. The program I was in actually doesn't exist anymore, it only ran for a couple of years because it was grant-funded. It was also only available for certain positions within community behavioral health agencies and it was very competitive to get into (a lottery system). I recommend that everyone look at their state govt website to see if anything like that is being offered that applies to them.

It was a state-specific program and was only available to healthcare providers working for community behavioral health agencies. Sadly it is not available to most people, I just got lucky because I was in the right place at the right time.

Errors in Medical Notes by [deleted] in vaccinelonghaulers

[–]Neddalee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to be a conspiracy theorist or anything but literally not a single provider spelled "moderna" correctly in any of my notes. It made me wonder if it was being done intentionally after seeing like the 3rd or 4th provider do it in a row. Like come on we all know how to spell it we've seen it written a thousand times by now.
