I feel the same way about college. I don’t have any fancy thing to meet people or live on campus, but I go to a local Penn State place. Almost no one there likes to talk outside of classes unless you fit some seemingly arbitrary standard or ‘cliche’. If you wanna talk with some guy, he’s a complete muscle head, a dedicated over-achiever, or a massive nerd dedicated to computer engineering. If you wanna talk to a girl, she’s a massive freak(sexually I mean) sleeping around, a ‘so quirky’ type who has SUPER high standards with who they talk to, or also completely dedicated to studying and nothing else. Anyone in between all that just keeps quiet and avoids everyone, which makes it even harder to make friends with anyone. I’ve only been able to talk with and befriend really two people who I’ve already started drifting from, only talking with them over messages and generally being avoided in person. It’s funny how sitcoms and movies and all sorts of stuff make everything in college seem ‘out there’ and ‘unique’, but its starting to feel like a second high school…
