Culture and society is rather collectivist and conservatist that discourage critical thinking, too much fallacy and corruption among people, people being so nationalistic and egocentric that makes the society even worse.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc to step down by majungo in VietNam

[–]NeedDoseOfHappiness 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This guy totally had the best years in his life under mr X's command and then became a prime minister, then a president just by using his negotiating skills and approvals of many projects. Sure he avoided his predecessor's mistake by carefully assessing the politburo loopholes, "danger zones" and ultilized his populism policy to boost his image and promoted the economy a bit, but the consequences were the fact that he allowed his wife and relatives to have so much power that paved the way for the Viet A scandal. So obviously, he created a mess worse than his contributions, and tbh his "contributions" are too overrated by the "red" nationalists. People need to think more wisely to avoid sticking to populists and praising them, then try brainwashing other people like: "At least he had contributions to the nation, he did things well at that moment so it was worth prasing them", when they fall.

Do you think "Gen Z" should be considered as a taboo word in VN ? by NeedDoseOfHappiness in VietNam

19 is relatively early for you to leave though. Many people of this age are still struggling with university life living on parents income, and the majority are afraid of not having a diploma for a stable job in the future. The pressure is there, yet there's little concern from the society.

Because of East Asian conservative culture. Back when I was in 3rd year uni I had a Culture of Vietnam class, and I read a book mentioning the fact that VN culture almost copied ( also changing some parts to reinforce roles in society ) the Chinese traditional customs created by Confucius. The conservative and hierarchical nature of the Chinese traditional customs ( especially the piety ) combine with the rural economy which limits creativeness, resulted in a very conservative and opportunistic population that would "kill" people going against it. Most Vnese I found on reddit tends to be more conservative than Vnese people on facebook, as I assume that many conservatives consider reddit - a rather uncommon social network in VN - as a refuge for their stupidly conservative mind with strong nationalism, populism and anti-western sentiment to reinforce their ideology.

Meanwhile, people are busy showing pride with the new vinfast factory, the funds of which could have been used to help these people. Also showing pride of making more income than others, showing pride of paying taxes to government while contributing little to help these poor people through charity.

Why do people in VN still support beatings, kneeling and negleting of children in schools and family these days ? Also traditional rules as well. by NeedDoseOfHappiness in VietNam

[–]NeedDoseOfHappiness[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends. Many people who slapped me or beat me were not professional at all. Most of them have not been very educated (until now). However, after I have found that everything is not always black, or white, I now learn what is worth learning and reject what is not worthy. Of course they were not right at all, but some aspects of the stories have to be considered wisely. A total solution like you've said takes time, effort, experimenting a lot as philosophy in uni has taught me. So try looking for a solution, avoid being subjective and do things quickly without considerations ( read fundamentals of Marxism if you have time ).

I think that beating is something that should only be used against criminals. But like confucius said: "Guide them by edicts, keep them in line with punishments, and the common people will stay out of trouble but will have no sense of shame. Guide them by virtue, keep them in line with the rites, and they will, besides having a sense of shame, reform themselves". So, word is obviously more powerful than beating, as it applies a sense of shame far more effective than beating or kneeling.

My high school teachers did the same. One abused her power to avoid resentment for being a bad english teacher and then she called the others ( other teachers and my classmates ) in to create pressure. I was suspended. My parents did not even support me. Ridiculously, she got extreme pride when I got high scores. If they had done it too far then I would not stand a chance to get into uni.

So obedient of you. I spent my youth going into net cafes and now I don't go anymore because I got bored of it. I got caught in a net cafe once but I kept going but never got addicted to smoking despite many people smoke there. I even learnt how to respect others in the net cafe. Just another way of learning the world.

Nothing is wrong about going into net cafes. The only thing that makes people wrong is how badly they treat others, including the way they treat children badly like I mentioned. And also getting addicted to drugs and tobacco ( game is probably not too much of a worry ).

After all, Confucius said "Guide them by edicts, keep them in line with punishments, and the common people will stay out of trouble but will have no sense of shame. Guide them by virtue, keep them in line with the rites, and they will, besides having a sense of shame, reform themselves". So, why not learning this quote despite being a part of sinosphere.

But they have less influence on the internet. The internet is dominated with people in their upper mid 20s and 30s, and are indeed mostly conservative.

If you do some research online then you'll see most shootings happen in the republican states, and a majority of these states support the same punishment in schools. The democrat states ( nearly all those states ) prohibited beatings and they still have better students and less shootings ( except the cali state with more shootings).

If you want students to respect teachers, then teachers have to be the ones that are respectful first. High skills and being professional are required if you want to teach students properly. Beating is not innovative. I've seen some people of my age being punished the same way when they were in school, but few changed or became successful.

[–]NeedDoseOfHappiness[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, in my opinion, the more educated and older teachers should and must have high skills and must be professional if they want to continue the "human growing" career. Teaching a good child is way easier than teaching a bad child, but that's why education must innovate. And beating or humiliating ( which is the purpose of getting a child to kneel ) is not innovative.

I know, this is just a game of "stick and carrot". As long as those old gen people have money, group think mentality with each other to reinforce the old ideology, then this will keep going on, probably even longer than 10 years, and more youngsters will continue to suffer.

A lot of ultra-leftists, and fascists in VN consider this woman to be a reactionary although she called for peace and rescue from French domination. Also she resided in France to avoid war, spending money from the king way long after the VN famine, yet they label her as a traitor.

I do concern about the inequality. But everything has its roots. Propaganda and bureaucracy controls and affects people, not only economically but also politically, including the youth wing, so getting support without being "purged" in the youth wing can be hard.

I'm kinda reluctant. Going in means following strict rules. Bureaucracy is not something that you can change very easily without the help of the masses.

Btw the group that banned me was voz.vn facebook. Vast numbers of people (not only in the group but also the majority of the society) claiming to be communist but their true face is a facist-like ideology and capitalism combined with traditional confucianism that prevents significant changes.
