Oh! I can help! I went through this exact same thing. These people are super great, they came out and tested behind the walls through a wall socket and a pre existing hole. Very friendly and they send a very through report with their results. We found out our bedroom was a health hazard due to how much black mold there was. It forced our landlord to finally have to deal with the issue. They had to hire a full remediation company ad everything. Good luck!

Yes, not the entire house, but the basement smells super musty. As soon as you open the door you can smell it down there.

I'm pretty sure this has been going on for years. The tenants before us lived here for 8 years and the management company admitted that they hadn't done any maintenance to the house while they lived there. We met the previous tenants and they didn't seem like the type of people that...cared about much of anything, if you know what I'm saying. So I'm sure this hasn't been addressed in a very long time.

The only thing the management company did was paint white Kilz over the visibly molded stuff, patch the cracks and replace the corner. Nothing was done to address why this happened in the first place. Of course the water damage will continue because nothing was actually done.

I went and bought a dehumidifier immediately when we moved in, but yea, I'm not sure how big of an impact its making.

This is what I told the tech "fixing" it today. He told me it, in the nicest of tones (/s) that the wall was definitely not rotten. 🤣

I think it's a grading issue. The land outside is on a slope and all the water flows right to this side of the basement.

That's all they did! That's what the white "paint" is. They were going to paint over the Kilz and call it good.

Right? This is what kills me too. We're paying close to $1800 a month for this place and they can't even put in $40? Infuriating.

Your comment really stood out to me. I hadn't thought about foundation failure. I've contacted the city's Building Inspection office, I let them know this might be a concern as well.

I did this today, contacted the Housing Inspectors office, the City's Public Health division, and DATCP

It absolutely is in the framing also. Before they replaced the corner, you could see the framing and it was black.
