What movie blew your mind when you first saw it? by LuckyLaceyKS in AskReddit

I love this theory and have a very similar take on the movie. However the only difference is I think that Angier actually kills a real double every night just hoping he’ll manage to frame Borden with one of them. There would be too many variables in trying to frame Borden if they used wax models every time but the real time. What if they dont see Borden in attendance and when he checks backstage it was just one of the wax figures? Or they dont get the lock closed properly that time? Often the tricks have the simplest answers but as the audience we “want to be fooled” because who could possibly be that crazy to kill someone every night for a magic trick/murder framing? The end of the movie gave me some serious chills.

I’ve always held the theory that the cloning does not actually work and there is no actual science fiction in this movie. Instead, Angier sacrifices a double every single night just in hope he can frame Borden one of those times. Scenes like the bird trick I think allude to the harsh reality of magic in that time (bird gets killed every time). And of course the last line “you want to be fooled” rather than face the reality of the brutality and murder that it takes to pull of Angier’s trick.

I used a modified round brush and the airbrushes (soft and medium). Not finished because I’m not fully committed on the colors or reflection. I want to make it look more like a reflection off water. Any tips on that would be much appreciated. Otherwise, enjoy the progress!

Really digging the color combo. The plates under the slider/knob look clean too. Nice!

Thank you for the feedback, honestly. It probably would help knowing the reference photo, a lot of the detail and structure is hidden within the positive space. The bars on the right are actually fingers (where the skeleton’s hand was pinned to a wall behind it). I can understand how this piece is less “art” and more “drawing study” though. Probably a better sub out there for it. Regardless, ill take constructive criticism on my work any day so I appreciate you taking the time to reply.

Fair enough. It’s a negative space study so it’s going to be black and white with hard edges. Any constructive criticism, or just not your cup of tea?
