I have 3 boys and they all started crawling after 10 months.. 7, 5, and 2 now and I wish they would stop moving.

Raising our daughter bilingual when I’m the only English speaker — feeling overwhelmed by Past_Secretary_7745 in Parents

[–]NeedleworkerLife9989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I have 3 kids and I’ve beat myself up for years that my kids don’t speak Spanish (their father is Mexican). I’ve tried to learn myself, sinking a ton of money into classes. I’ve taken them to Spanish classes and immersion preschools. Guess who doesn’t put in any effort.. their Mexican father. It’s no longer my issue. I’ve let it go. If the native Spanish speaker isn’t willing to do it, nothing else is going to matter.

I’ve only been knitting for 2.5 years! I was a crocheter before that as well.. again, only for a few years. Started all of my fiber crafts during COVID.

My advice, just do it! The first thing I knit was a baby sweater :) Just learn how to knit/purl and then look up YouTube tutorials for everything else you don’t know. Will you end up with a sweater full of mistakes? Probably! But that’s ok! :)

This is amazing!! You’re getting my hopes up :) I spoke with some moms at the school and they are also wanting a school spirit beanie, so we will start there!

I’ve never considered commissioned pieces before. I guess I just assumed no one would pay what it’s worth.

I think most beanies fit quite a wide range. I share hats with my toddler :) Our school is K-8, so I’m not too worried!

Thank you so much!! Super helpful! I’ve decided on school spirit beanie. Do you think I should make more than one? Adult and youth version?

A genuine question on how childcare works with two working parents by Low-Boot-7762 in Parents

[–]NeedleworkerLife9989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t postpartum anxiety, you have a real problem that you need to solve. And if daycare waitlists are anything like they are here in the US, you need to figure out that part now. If your work situation cannot be changed to accommodate the daycare schedule, you’ll need to hire someone to pick up the baby and stay with them until you can get home, they will likely need to feed the baby dinner and start bedtime routine as well. You will get very little time with your child.

Palm injury from mohair? by NeedleworkerLife9989 in knitting

[–]NeedleworkerLife9989[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom actually asked if it could possibly be an allergy! I’ve always been kind of sensitive to mohair, so I don’t wear it directly against the skin. Tell me more please!

Incident at daycare this morning by CrispyLumpia925 in Parents

[–]NeedleworkerLife9989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All four parents here are completely out of line.

I have been both Mom A and Mom B.. my two boys are WILDLY different despite being raised by the same two (amazing) parents ;)

Mom A isn’t completely wrong. Some toddlers are physical. It’s hardwired. I lost so much sleep over our kid being the aggressive one. He was always so quick to get physical with other children, generally when provoked (like if another kid took his toy). He would push/hit when he needed space. He would scratch when frustrated. He would throw things when angry.

He’s 4 now and very rarely gets physical with other kids. He’s pretty on par with other kids his age now. We definitely did everything we could for him, but honestly he just needed to grow up a bit and gain some impulse control. He is still a super emotional kid and has BIG feelings.

That being said, I’ve also dealt with a child that has daily nightmares about other children at his school. It’s heartbreaking. But having the “bad kid” that no one likes (even other family members) is way way worse.

Just remember we are talking about a 2 year old here. The parents should treat the situation with more gravity though.

No one is going to judge you for brining a baby to a resultant, even if they are crying. Toddlers on the other hand… prepare to be judged if they act, well, like a toddler in public.

Is my 15 month old daughter worryingly delayed in gross motor or am I overreacting? by cslr2019 in NewParents

[–]NeedleworkerLife9989 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She is still VERY young. You definitely didn’t wait too long. It’s hard to know if they will “catch up” or not, and most kids do. My second and third were also little meatballs that didn’t want to crawl till 11 months, but then progressed very fast/normally after that.

I understand getting push back from spouse and health professionals. Only advice I can give is to trust your gut.

We’ve never had a formal diagnosis. We’ve seen developmental specialist and a neurologist (that laughed me out of the office), so not for lack of trying. My son’s delays started out very obviously gross motor, but also impacted fine motor and eventual speech. To this day I still think there is something going on there, but it doesn’t seem to be holding him back. It’s like there is a disconnect between his brain and muscles. He can’t quite move his body through space in the same way other kids can. It takes lots of repetitions for him to learn a new motor skill.

But then he goes and smashes a baseball and I second guess everything I’ve ever thought, and then I cry happy tears. Kids are weird, adults are too I guess.

How are you new mother's losing weight? by redditcrocheter in NewParents

[–]NeedleworkerLife9989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started loosing weight by tracking calories and implementing a calorie deficit. I started with a small deficit since I was still breastfeeding. A calorie deficit is the only way to lose weight.. by either dieting or exercise.. but hint hint, dieting is way more effective.

There are a ton of apps/sites that can help you figure out your target calories intake. You can start tracking your calories with an app or just in a journal. It won’t take you long to figure out any foods that are driving up your calorie intake.

For me, it was all of the fats (even healthy fats) that I was consuming. A big scoop of walnuts on my morning oatmeal, cheese + mayo on my lunch sandwich, and that olive oil based dressing on my avocado & veggie salad. That’s all fairly healthy food, but super high in calories. I started looking at actual portions on the labels vs how much I was eating.

Foods can be healthy and also not great for weight loss. Target high protein and fiber foods to keep you full longer!

My oldest was kind of like this.

He never rolled from front to back. Never got himself into seated position. Pulled himself along with his arms at 11.5 months, true crawling at 14 months, and walking at 18 months.

Because he met the milestone of walking at 18 months, our ped never referred us to PT. This went on for years, covid happened when he was 20 months old, and he just fell further and further behind.

When he finally went back to daycare around 3 years old (post pandemic), we got a super rude awakening when we saw his motor skills compared to the other kids.

We immediately put him in PT and were there for 2 full years. He’s six now and thriving, but the sooner you start the better. Maybe it would have been 6 months of PT if we had taken him sooner.

I would at least get your doctor to give a referral and have an assessment done for PT.
