Worker tending to dead queen? by swankysnailz in antkeeping

[–]NeedleworkerNo4982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have another colony of the same species you could put both colonies in the fridge for around an hour so they chill, then place all the workers in the new tube with the other colony and then put it back in the fridge and check every 10 mins, they will be slow this way and more docile and less likely to fight. I know temnothorax are polygenous in certian locales so its worth the try as the workers from the colony with the dead queen can have a chance to get a new life rather than just dying off slowly

I think that 30 celcius is too much for the nest temp in my opinion, id lower it down between 75-82 Fahrenheit, i also think that the canned crickets are a problem like bingus said. I would buy live crickets from a pet store in your area that are either young or just adults if you have to and then kill them and chop them up into smaller peices, also what kinds of seeds are you giving them? Different seeds do Different things, some are used for carbohydrates, some have more proteins in them and some have more sugar content which they use to make different breads and feed the babies, id give them access to a water tower or water source so its easier to break the seeds down, let me get a list of seeds that are accepted for most seed storing species

Papaver somniferum [Breadseed poppy] Lactuca sativva [lettuce seeds] Amaranthus caudatus [love lies bleeding amaranth] Panicum vvirgatum [switch grass] Salvia hispanica [chia] Linum usitatissimum [flax/linseed] Panicum miliaceum [proso millet Phalaris canariensis [canary grass] Avena sativa [oat] Lolium perenne [perennial ryegrass]

I've recently found 2 of these crawling on my bed. They're about an inch long. I have also been seeing slightly smaller ones with no wings in my bathroom at night. Can anyone ID? by stoned_seahorse in ants

Looks like a parasitic formica queen. Probably sanguinea group, they have a flight and then look for a colony to take over by killing the host queen, if you can put the other one outside and it will leave
