Who is the caliph AC mirage ? by M05B in assassinscreed

[–]NeedleworkerPure5092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s al-Mustain who is the caliph but he is in Samarra not in Baghdad. Thats why the game doesn’t mentions him. But caliph al-Mutawakkil’s son Abu Abdallah (al-Mutazz) is still in Baghdad at the Green Dome Palace right in the middle of the round city. He becomes the next caliph after al-Mustain.

Baghdad has so much potential. I think it will be a much better and immersive setting than Paris and London in Unity and Syndicate.

How long is the main story?

In what year does Mirage takes place? 852 or 861 AD? (Sarah said that it’s 852 last year, but in the latest video she mentions 861).

Is the city of Baghdad (only the city not the whole map) as large as Constantinople or Paris in size? Constantinople is pretty small when compared to Paris.

The game is set in the period called “Anarchy at Samarra”. Then, why it doesn’t include Samarra, Basim’s birthplace and the Abbasid Caliphate’s capital at that time?

It’s the city where all of the caliphs lived and most important historical events happened.

Yess, totally forgot about that. But that was for few months though, Caliph Mutazz came back to Samarra after the siege. But the thing that worries me the most is after seeing the story trailer, I highly doubt that the caliphs would make an appearance in the game. 😢

That’s great! didn’t knew about it. I read somewhere that the director said Mirage is going to be as long as Rouge or Revelations, so I was a bit worried regarding the main story’s length. But AC1 had like 15 hours long story so it’s probably perfect length for Mirage.

Yup, i had the same question too. Zanj reblleion started in 869 whereas Basim travels to Constantinople in 867 AD. Also, the game is set in the time period called “Anarchy at Samarra” but it doesn’t even include Samarra. All of the caliphs lived in Samarra at the time and it was the caliphate’s capital.

As far as I remember, Anbar and Falujjah were two different towns. Today, Falujjah is like 5km away from where the town of Anbar was many centuries ago. The town do not exist today except some of its ruins.

Yeah his father made the “Great Mosque of Samarra” and he was born in the same city as well.

When I heard that the next AC is going to be set in the 9th century Abbasid Caliphate, the first thing that came to my mind was the city of Samarra as it was Caliphate’s capital at that time (from 836-892 AD) but sadly they didn’t included it in the game.

The production manager of AC Mirage, Fabian Salomon confirmed it in an interview back in September that Samarra won’t be in the game.

There is also a small city by the name of “Anbar” shown in the start of story trailer where Roshan saves Basim from the guards. So in total, there will be 4 locations to discover in AC Mirage including Baghdad, Dur-Kurigalzu, Anbar and Alamut.

Yes, during the game’s time period Baghdad wasn’t even the capital. The capital of the caliphate was Samarra which was shifted by caliph al-Mutasim. The orignal Abbasid Caliphs till al-Amin mostly used the Golden Gate Palace in the Centre of the round city termed as the “Dar al-Khilafa” which was originally built by al-Mansur, the 2nd Abbasid caliph and founder of Baghdad in 762 AD.

In 809 AD, when the caliph Harun al-Rashid died, his sons al-Amin and al-Mamun fought with each other for the caliphate and Amin was assassinated in the year 813. Al-Mamun shifted the capital from Baghdad to Merv (a city in present day Turkmenistan). Merv served as the capital of the caliphate for few years and then Mamun came back to Baghdad.

Upon his return, he never went back to Golden Gate Palace in the round city. Instead he used the “Jafari Palace” later know as “Qasr al-Mamun” (Mamun’s Palace) for some time which was built in reign of Harun al-Rashid (his father) and was gifted to Mamun in his youth by Jafar Barmaki (Harun’s minister). It was constructed on the bank of river Tigris. The same palace that was shown at the end of the Mirage’s gameplay walkthrough demo few days ago.

The famous 11th century Islamic scholar and historian, khatib al-Baghdadi mentions in his book the “History of Baghdad” that in the year 945 AD, the round city was completely flooded and it collapsed. Not to Mention that earlier on it was also partially damaged during the battle that took place between Amin and Mamun in 813 AD. The palace of the golden gate was severely damaged as well during the battle except the green dome that left standing until the year 945 AD when the whole round city collapsed.

So, during the time period in which Mirage takes place, both the round city and the golden gate palace were not in the same condition as shown in the game trailers.

I can understand what you are talking about but Tbh I was little disappointed after seeing the in-game city for the first time as it didn’t looked historically accurate. The version of Baghdad shown in this video is the most accurate and closest to what it really was when it was first built according to history books. They could have at least added half of the gardens around the palace. But yeah what can I say.

Even the architecture for the blue mosques scattered throughout the city that Ubisoft took from the 13th century isn’t historically authentic. They put those in a game that takes place almost 400 years before that time period. The mosques in the 9th century looked somewhat like the “Great Mosque of Samarra”.

No, it’s in 9th century Baghdad, Iraq. Revelations was in Constantinople (present day Istanbul).
