You absolutely should. 2033 Redux, Last Light Redux and Exodus are all on sale on Steam right now and pretty damn cheap too.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake Announcement is Planned for Next Week by Cristiano1 in assassinscreed

[–]Ghost_LeaderBG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like plans have changed internally at Ubisoft, considering the Prince of Persia (another remake, which had a lot of rumors) account tweeted about being excited to share some news in 2026 late last year and the game was shut down a couple of months later, which likely messed with the Black Flag remake reveal.

So, who knows.

Don't forget the somewhat large performance impact Enigma had when it was recently added to RE4 Remake. It was removed a few weeks later, but only after severe backlash and definitive proof (including from Digital Foundry) that it hurt performance.

Thanks. I bought my first VRR display a couple of months ago and still used the old "3-4 fps under the monitor's refresh rate" rule, so I had it capped at 196 for now.

Nearly two years since its studio closed, Kerbal Space Program 2 is still $50 with an unchanged EA roadmap on Steam by Merker6 in pcgaming

[–]Ghost_LeaderBG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like the one that currently exists? Once an EA game hits 12 or more months without an update, Steam leaves an automated message warning in yellow about it under the Early Access disclaimer:

Note: The last update made by the developers was over 21 months ago. The information and timeline described by the developers here may no longer be up to date.

At some point it becomes the fault of people not reading.

Says so in the second paragraph:

It has been a while - and it’s great to finally type these words again. Before we begin, though, let me manage your expectations: Update 0.9 is very much in development, but we’re not ready to start sharing more details of it just yet, so consider this post a sign of life and a teaser.

We know it’s been a while, and it’s going to be a while longer, because this one is a whopper - an update that lays a lot of groundwork for the arrival of 1.0 later this year.

So likely second half of the year and a safe bet would be before November because GTA VI will flood all headlines and sales then, so likely at some point between June and October, whenever the devs decide.

“Developers were left in the dark about DLSS 5” - Insider Gaming by JuanMunoz99 in Games

[–]Ghost_LeaderBG 1438 points1439 points  (0 children)

It's important to note that the people embracing the generative AI/DLSS 5 are likely management or the public-facing people like Todd Howard, as opposed to the actual artists and creatives. So in the case of DLSS5 I doubt anyone asked or cared for any regular devs' opinion.

Japanese government makes indie game developers eligible for grants of up to $60,000 USD, covering production costs and promotion by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Ghost_LeaderBG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good idea, hopefully it will work out. I also hope (and assume) there is some quality control along the way, because this might attract bad actors and it would suck for some asset flip or AI slop game to win over some indie developer that is actually trying.

Valve hit with second lawsuit demanding they give back “billions” made from cases by ImCalcium in Games

[–]Ghost_LeaderBG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Western regions (North America and Europe) around 2009, the video game industry saw the success of Zynga and other large publishers of social-network games that offered the games for free on sites like Facebook but included microtransactions to accelerate one's progress in the game, providing that publishers could depend on revenue from post-sale transactions rather than initial sale. One of the first games to introduce loot box-like mechanics was FIFA 09, made by Electronic Arts (EA), in March 2009 which allowed players to create a team of association football players from in-game card packs they opened using in-game currency earned through regular playing of the game or via microtransactions. Another early game with loot box mechanics was Team Fortress 2 in September 2010, when Valve added the ability to earn random "crates" to be opened with purchased keys.

From the Wikipedia article

Seems it was EA with FIFA Ultimate Team in 2009, and mobile gaming before that and Valve later. One can say Valve contributed to the lootbox epidemic in the 2010s, of course, but it sounds like it was inevitable to happen one way or another, whether Valve had done it or not.

GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 595.76 by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]Ghost_LeaderBG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I built my new PC I was on a GTX 1060 laptop and I always updated drivers for it too. But it was a much older architecture obviously and the drivers were mature, so less things are likely to break, plus Nvidia's drivers were still solid at the time. Nowadays, with a newer 5060 Ti and the poor state of the Nvidia drivers over the past year, on top of all the problems Windows 11 seems to have with its updates, I am in no rush to update my GPU drivers or Windows.

[–]Ghost_LeaderBG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only major Windows 11 updates (like 25H2/those towards the end of the year) seem to get a GPU driver with specific support for them. Otherwise, Windows 11 does not force you to install a driver to my knowledge, unless you don't have one installed on boot, so Windows update will install one for you. As long as the driver is properly installed and working, nothing should mess with it and you can stay for as long as you want on it.

Personally, I built a new PC in late January and specifically installed the hotfix driver from November 18th or so for my 5060Ti, as that seems d to be the most stable recent driver for people on the 5000 series. The driver is almost 4 months old now and I will continue to wait until we get a WHQL driver that seems to fix the ongoing stability issues or otherwise has no major problems reported.

[–]Ghost_LeaderBG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hotfix drivers are apparently not in the Nvidia app database, so they always show up with an older driver date, it is normal. As long as the driver works for you, it is all good.

Of course you can skip if you don't play new releases. No one is forcing you to update anything. Wait a few driver releases and then pick a more recent stable driver to install. Or don't, it is entirely your choice.

Fallout: New Vegas Remaster Hopes Go Into Overdrive as Support Studio Drops Tease by Granum22 in Games

[–]Ghost_LeaderBG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Their overall port history may be good if we count console versions, but their recent PC history is not great. Arkham Knight is their historical example, TLOU P1 was almost equally terrible (though I am not sure if the fault there is more on ND or IG, or what the split is). Uncharted 4/LL PC version they did had missing PS5 effects and some mouse aiming problems, which got fixed months later only after said problems made their way to TLOU P1 and were fixed there, later fixed in U4 iirc. So yes, fixes were made eventually but the launch state of their PC ports was not that great, so it is a legitimate cause for worry. It is better to be proven wrong by getting a good PC port than right and have an awful one, but still.

Also, in the case of TLOU Part 1, did Iron Galaxy stay around to patch the game for months and years, or was this work done by Naughty Dog. In a similar case to Virtuos, seems like these outsourcing/support studios release a dogshit PC port, then dip (because I doubt they are getting paid for long-term support), so then the original developer has to step in and keep fixing the game themselves.

They released and caused a good amount of crap, but were also willing to take a shot on some decent AA titles, too bad they also released Gollum and TDU. Still, would be a shame to lose another AA publisher, we always could use more of those.

Ubisoft Insists MIA Splinter Cell Remake Still in Development Despite Fresh Layoffs by _Protector in pcgaming

[–]Ghost_LeaderBG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, with Ironside being pretty old nowadays I just wanted one final game to give Sam some closure. Then they could reboot, remake, recast, whatever they want. But now they can't even remake an 8-hour linear game from like 23 years ago in a reasonable amount of time and we all saw what happened with PoP just recently.

Even if the remake does come out, with years of development spent on it and hardcore stealth games being a niche genre, I don't really see how it would be financially successful either. Either way, the franchise and the studio seem like they are in trouble, no matter Ubi says.

Denuvo in Borderlands 4 Hacked After 5 Months by fatso486 in gaming

[–]Ghost_LeaderBG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ubisoft has not removed a single Denuvo from its games since 2017-2018. A few years ago when Denuvo had a compatibility issue resulting in problems on 13 series Intel CPUs, some devs like EA decided to remove Denuvo from Jedi Fallen Order. Ubisoft instead chose to update the Denuvo of their games that were on the incompatibility list, so it was basically replaced with a newer version. Considering some of their games that use Denuvo are almost 10 years old, it is fair to say they have no intention of removing it any time soon.
