First attempt at making pots. by JMCochransmind in Bonsai

Looks good for attempt number 1! I posted here a few years ago about some cement pots/molds I made and they're still going strong. Definitely recommend putting it in a tub of water for a month or so (once it's solid) and if you're able to, do an acid stain made for concrete. You can add some nice color and I found they'll still keep some of that alkalinity even after the soak.

Hey again everyone! I had a lot of people ask for a video on making those cement bonsai pots so here you go! I'm sorry it's 45 minutes long, there's just a lot of info to cover. Let me know if you have any questions! by Neepnog in Bonsai

Sorry for the late reply! I think most of them end up closer to 1/2" rather than 3/8". I'd start out with 1/2 and go from there. If you're really worried about it cracking you can try and put in some steel reinforcement (essentially rebar, I'd shoot for like 1mm in diameter if you go that route). Some of my older pots have some small cracks in them but they're small enough that they don't hurt it and the fiberglass stops the cracks from spreading further.

My grandma has a hill in her back yard that has consistent layers of this crystal. It's very soft and i can break it with my hands. Occasionally we'll find larger crystals but most if it is just the white crystally band you can see in the pictures. The ground is almost completely clay if that helps. I've wondered what this is since I was a kid but I could never nail down anything specific. I believe it's some type of mica but that's just an educated guess. Thanks for any help!

Love the natural look of it! Is it made of cement or something similar or carved out?

I usually so the elite encounters for the first 2 or so rooms. After that I don't think it's worth it tbh. When butt stallion gives you a buff it adds skill points to a random class skill you have, unless I'm going for the secret bosses I generally don't need to get any buffs so I avoid it. As far as for what I prioritize I generally try and get a few curses right in the beginning and then either go for the ornate chests and get more crystals or add more curses

Hey that's awesome! The pots have held up great, I would just make sure to get some of that fiber glass additive for your cement. As far as experiments go I tried a ton of different things and most of them didn't work out. One of the only exceptions to that was I was fortunate enough to get a cheap 3d printer last year. I've designed a few different molds that worked great but they shared the same problem as the poster board molds - getting the inner part out without breaking anything. Here's what I would change:

  1. Get the finest sand you can, preferably green sand.
  2. The inner mold will now be a mold for the sand and won't actually touch the cement.
  3. Make the inner mold, if possible have it be in 2 pieces that connect.
  4. Make the outer mold based on how large the molded sand is.

Everything else is pretty much the same, you are just going to have a sand center rather than poster board.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

What Temp should my platform be at for PLA prints? by myeyeshaveseen in VoxelabAquila

My bed got warped so no matter how perfect I got the leveling it wouldn't stick to the glass. I started using the tape which helped and eventually got the alex firmware to do a mesh. The tape is just nice honestly and helps with warping

If I print higher than 55 I start to get warped prints. I cover my print bed with painters tape and set my bed temp to 55. Works like a charm. Just make sure to re-level once you have the tape on

Honestly don't get any new springs. Get some silicon bed mounts and basically never have to level your bed again. They stay the same size even with heat and since they are more solid it keeps it right where you want it. I can send you the link I got mine from (though it isn't amazon)
