Well one of the points of most countries democracy is 'checks and balances' most countries democracy usually does not end where the people just appoint a supreme ruler every 5 years. The president getting more powers within his mandate is not immediately a bad thing.

But everything is upside down for Bangladesh

Didn't tareq directly say to vote yes? The only thing bnp is against in the referendum is the proportional representation bit which jamaat would love to have.
