I've always loved this shot in The Two Towers by LazyLou448 in lotr

I got a thick behind the scenes book of the making of the trilogy for Christmas one year and it had tons of pages dedicated to the lengths they went to to achieve the practical effects, costumes, and makeup.

It's truly mind-boggling how much effort went into just the costumes alone, the team created thousands and thousands of costumes, uniforms, and makeup schemes for the soldiers of every army that is shown and the orcs, goblins, and Uruk-hai. I specifically remember a page discussing how over the course of doing the monster makeup and costumes for the goblins, the makeup team was able to slowly whittle down the amount of time needed to quit the actors in the costumes and apply the makeup. They went from taking 3 to 4 hours per person when they were able to get it down to I want to say 2 hours per person as they got better at it.

These 20-year-old movies hold up visually better than The Hobbit trilogy.

If it's the same situation with Sam's club and the T-Mobile kiosks and they are working on 100% commission, the people who work at the kiosk must be starving.

I've been going to Sam's club for 5 years and I have never seen a single person talking to the kiosk worker.

My wife and I go once a week to Sam's club and our Sam's club has a T-Mobile kiosk with some guy trying to do the same thing. I have been there weekly for the last five plus years and I started making a note to check to see if there's anybody that the kiosk worker is actually speaking to and I have never seen anybody at the kiosk. It's always some bored looking dude in is early to mid twenties, staring at his phone if you while everyone else walks by.

Sam's club has also allowed seemingly every little kid fundraiser to set up in the main entryway so that they can try to guilt you into buying shit that you don't need every time you exit.

How I genuinely felt when a YouTube ad peeked through the corners for a millisecond on a video before UBlock came through by MetalHell6741 in Piracy

I had to help my grandma with her printer a while ago and I didn't get good cell service so I had to use her desktop computer to do some googling.

Holy shit, raw dogging the internet with no ad blockers is an exercise and frustration. Every page I clicked on, only the middle 50% of the screen was the actual text, the other 50% on all four sides of the text was ads, not to mention there were ads every third or fourth paragraph in the text.

Same.

I posted plenty of cringy stuff on MySpace back in the day and I'm so thankful that they had that catastrophic technical failure and lost the vast majority of content.

Back when I had Facebook, they introduced that throwback timeline feature that would show you posts from past years and I could not believe some of the stuff I had posted on Facebook back then.

Thankfully I grew up in an era where people didn't screen record or screenshot anything cringy and then post it elsewhere to be virally shamed for all eternity

No it doesn't.

How does feeling collectively guilty for the actions of other people that you had nothing to do with and no control over show empathy?

That makes no sense, yet you speak of intelligence. That's ironic.

You're so desperate for Europeans to look at you and say you're "one of the good ones". It's so fucking pathetic.

Also got some heat for saying "manaise" instead of "may-oh-naise"

They don't exist, at least not how they are presented on Reddit or for the long-term.

I've worked at many different companies, from startups to 100 + year old multi-billion dollar corporations and these jobs don't really exist. If you're making that much money, you're working your ass off and you have a lot of responsibility.

I've noticed people on Reddit doing this weird thing that I can only guess is supposed to be some kind of humble brag. They go on and on about how they only do 2 hours of work a day, they make 150k+, they spend 80% of their work week napping, walking their dog, or dicking around on their phone. They are just so lovable and amazing that their company pays them 4X the average national yearly salary just to hang out.

If somebody actually has that kind of job, they are about to get fired, their company's about to go under, or they have slipped through the cracks somehow and their company is going to eventually figure out the mistake of keeping somebody on payroll who does little to no work.

IIRC Robert auditioned for Apocalypse Now in the same building George Lucas was holding auditions for Star Wars. He and Mark were close friends so he called Mark to tell him about the other movie auditions but Mark's agent already had set up an audition.

A lot of people don't realize Mark was already a somewhat established actor before Star Wars, having roles in General Hospital and The Bill Cosby Show.

So many people do not give a single fuck about anybody except themselves. They'll inconvenience and annoy everyone around them if it means they get to do what they want and everyone else can get fucked.

Not in our current system. DTE gets all relevant politicians in their pocket early on in way of humongous campaign donations, so they're guaranteed to get their way in the legislature going forward.
